Lord, fix my broken heart
The word courage comes from the Greek “cor” which translates to heart. The heart represents our innermost thoughts, feelings and desires. These things are very personal and are what make us individually wonderful to God. Yet, our hearts are easily broken by others and by ourselves. How do we teach children to be courageous and share God’s light and love with the world without first teaching them to heal and protect their hearts?
The world will break your heart. That is for certain. The students at Sacred Heart easily pointed out many, many ways that a heart can be broken.
*Being told you aren’t good enough *Feeling left out *Having someone physically hurt you *Telling yourself you are awful *Having someone yell at you *Being told you are bad * When you lose someone close to you * Having a pet die.
These are just a few of the examples the children shared when I asked them how our hearts can be broken. We also quickly realized that we can break our own hearts.
*Lying *Not trying hard *Not finishing your homework *Hurting our friends *Arguing with siblings *Not obeying the rules at home or at school.
I showed them a crisp white piece of paper and crumbled it with every example they provided. In the end, the paper was a mangled mess. We can never put the paper back to the crisp white piece we had at the beginning but maybe, we don’t want to. Those wrinkles and scars are enlightening us. They are giving us a reason to think harder about our resilience, and our inner strength. We want them to know God’s power to heal and how to use it to bring them closer to God.
6 Ways to heal your own heart
1. Pray- Let God show you how much he loves you and bask in this love until you feel better. 2. Hope- God’s love will guide you through the darkness and into the possibilities of loving fully again
3. Gratitude- Count your blessings, and what are we grateful for: EVERYTHING!
4. Forgiveness- Yes- you are hurt, maybe even deeply wounded. No one can heal this pain the way you can. God has given you all that you need to heal your pain. You just need to trust that God can heal you if you ask him.
5. Purpose- Why are you here on Earth, in this life, with these people? Surely it is to spread goodness and knowledge. Focus on your purpose and ask God to reveal your special gifts that you are meant to share.
6. Love- Be kind to yourself and others and serve them as best as you can. Be gentle, be sweet, be honest and caring.
"I will give them a new heart and put a new spirit within them; I will remove the stony heart from their bodies, and replace it with a natural heart, so that they will live according to My statutes, and observe and carry out My ordinances; thus they shall be My people, and I will be their God" (Ez 11:19-20).

Healthy No Bake Valentine Cookies

INGREDIENTS
· ½ cup peanut butter
· ¼ cup coconut oil measured liquid
· ¼ cup coconut sugar
· ½ cup dark chocolate chips or semi sweet chocolate chips
· 1 teaspoon vanilla
· ½ teaspoon salt
· 1 ¾ cup oats
· 2 tablespoon chia seeds
INSTRUCTIONS
1. First, start by melting both the peanut butter and the coconut oil together in a small pot. Stir until smooth then add the coconut sugar then stir until the sugar is dissolved. By this time the mixture is just about to boil but do not boil it.
2. Move the pot off the heat and add in the chocolate chips. Stir until all the chocolate is melted and well incorporated. Add in the vanilla and the salt and stir one more time to combine.
3. Add in the oats and the chia seeds and stir until everything is coated with the peanut butter and chocolate mixture. Let the mixture rest in the pot for 20 minutes.
4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and using your heart cookie cutter scoop out 2-3 tablespoons in the center. Flatten using the back of the spoon and then remove the cookie cutter. Repeat this process until you are completely done with all the oat mixture. Top the cookie with pink sprinkles if you are making these for valentine's day.
5. Place the baking sheet in the freezer and let the cookies solidify in there for 20 minutes.
NOTES
Store these cookies in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer.
