Intersession Week Activities
We just completed our very first Intersession Week at Otsego Public Schools and it was a busy one! This week off provided academic support and enrichment opportunities at school for dozens of students. Below are some highlights from our Enrichment offerings.
Elementary students enjoy four days of fun!
For students in K-5, the enrichment week includes four different activities, one each day. They took a field trip to either Harvest Moon Acres or Gull Meadow Farms, engaged in STEM activities, enjoyed a morning or afternoon of PE/Sports activities and got creative in art with Ms. Buettner and Ms. Pixley! It was a lot of fun!
OMS Holds Theatre Camp & LIfe Skills/ Home Ec Class
Learning the ropes of theatre production
Seven middle school students spent the afternoons this week learning all about how a theatre production comes together behind the scenes. They learned about directing, set design, lighting and sound, costumes and props and stage management. Rachel Piper taught the class (did you know she's has a theatre degree?!) Rodger Gibson, Otsego parent and Board member, also came in one afternoon to talk set design with the kids. Gibson manages the set designs for the high school musicals.

Life Skills in the Kitchen
OMS has two groups of students attend the Life Skills / Home Ec enrichment camps with Lindsey Pompileo, Cupcake Zoo owner and Otsego parent. She sent kids home with 12 fabulous recipes, kitchen basics and the know-how of how to do dishes, too! She had them cook up breakfast, snacks, lunches, dinner and desserts. They made a lot of food and tried everything they made so they also discovered a taste for some new things! A few of the recipes were: ham & cheese frittata, biscuits and gravy. bagel pizza, garlic alfredo sauce with pasta, granola, cake pops, chocolate chip cookies, fruit pizza and cheesy potatoes!
HS Students Explore their Future
About 25 students hopped aboard the bus this week to explore colleges. The high school enrichment activities were college visits to Michigan State University and Grand Valley State University. They learned about the admissions process, toured the campus and ate lunch on both campuses.
Congrats, new lifeguards!
Intersession Week provided the time and an opportunity for students to earn their Lifeguarding Certification! Congratulations to Abie Sullivan and Sean Cornish for completing the course!
