West High School's Weekly Updates: January 17 - January 23

Dance Marathon Raises Spirits (and lots of money)

"It's not about the money; it is about the movement," Ms. Secrist announced to the hundreds of students at the end of this year's dance marathon. She told students it was about how we all stand together when facing cancer. Ms. Secrist is one of a handful of teacher organizers of the West High Dance Marathon. During the 6-hour event, students listened to speakers, danced, ran and raised money for cancer research and cancer survivors. In total, the West High Dance Marathon raised a whopping $95,034.22 this year. Congratulations to all the participants and a huge Thank You to all of the donors. A number of area business contributed money, gifts for the silent auction and there was a huge outpouring of support from our West High families.

To hear from some of the West High Dance Marathon participants during the event, check out updates during the event from Barbara Badovinac, Grace Huber, Jenny Pigge, Katie McGrane and others: https://livestream.com/WesTV/events/4693645/videos/109729727 and https://livestream.com/WesTV/events/4693645/videos/109726931 .

Yearbook Calls for Senior Photos

Senior photos for the yearbook are due in the main office by Tuesday Jan. 19, which is the day after Martin Luther King Day. Please be sure to drop off a wallet-size print in the main office by that date. Print your name on an envelope with the photo inside.

The photo needs to be wallet-size and vertical in proportion. It can be color or black and white. A head shot or a head-and-shoulders shot works best. The yearbook will not include photos from a home printer because they reproduce poorly. Either use a professional photographer or a photo retailer to print the photo.

Final Round of Parent/Teacher Conferences Wednesday

Parent-teacher conferences will be held this Wednesday, January 20th from 3:45-7:00 pm in the cafeteria. This is the final round of conferences for this school year. If you are unable to make conferences at this time and your son or daughter is struggling in a class, we invite you to contact the teacher via email or call the counseling office to speak with a guidance counselor at 688-1050 during school hours.
