Legislative Day 2018

Virginia School Counselor Association

Legislative Update: 1:250 in VA

The Board of Education has recommended 1:250 Ratios for School Counselors. This year, we are still educating legislators on the importance of what we do and this recommendation needs to be added this into the state budget. We were not part of the state budget for this coming year, but our Lobbyists are working with Delegates and Senators to amend the budget to include 1:250 ratios in At-Risk schools. This would be a good starting point, but the work is just beginning and we will not stop! This year, the general assembly has been moved to a temporary building and we were approved for a space to host legislators on January 10, 2018, the first day of session. We have a one-pager and a video to help you prepare for the day and will help you make appointments with your legislators. We will make appointments for you with other constituents from your districts. We hope you will join us for this important day of advocacy.
