Tiger Update
May 26 & 27 Return of School Supplies
Hello Tiger Families-
We hope you are doing well! Thank you again for your continued flexibility and patience.
We wanted to take this time to share about our "Reunification of Materials" drive-thru that will be coming up on Tuesday, May 26th, and Wednesday, May 27th at the K-4 level. We need to collect materials in an effort to prepare the items for the next school year. For example, many rented iPads will be replaced with newer versions and all other rented iPads need to be cleared for next year’s rental and app selection. Textbooks and library books need to be collected, isolated for multiple weeks to follow CDC guidelines, and then sorted for next year.
During this reunification drive-thru, our staff and volunteers will have masks and gloves on to assure everyone’s safety. We have selected two days to allow for flexibility with family schedules. We will be picking up the following items: Rental iPads, EDM hardcover textbooks, library books, and classroom library books. If yearbooks are in at that time, we will distribute yearbooks to those who pre-ordered. As mentioned, this is a drive-thru event, and we ask that no one leaves their cars during this time.
Please know we will NOT be collecting any of the following: workbooks, journals, recorders, consumable materials (including black and white books). Those items are for your child to keep. Due to the governor's executive order closing schools until June 30, 2020, we will not be returning items from inside the school at this time. The business we are conducting on these two days is deemed essential to prepare for the 20-21 school year! Please know that we miss our students and families dearly and we are planning celebration and closure activities for our Tigers at a later time to assure compliance with the governor’s orders. Please tell your child, they will get his/her items back later in the summer! We appreciate your patience!
When:
On May 26 and 27 between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, all families may use the back parking lot at Fishers Elementary School to drop off materials. See the chart below for preparations we ask you to make prior to the drop-off. The map above will show the traffic flow.
How to prepare your items:
ITEM
TASK to PREPARE ITEM
Sign with student(s) first and last name:
- Write or print your student(s) first and last name on a piece of paper that you can display on the passenger side of your windshield as you approach the staging area (see map).
Rented iPad:
- Please clear your iPad. Look for an email from the district on procedures for clearing your device.
EDM hardcover textbook, library books:
- No preparation needed
Classroom books and materials (your teacher may have specific items to return and if so, they will email you):
- (Reminder we will NOT be collecting black and white books. Those are yours to keep!)
- Please place your items in a plastic grocery bag. On the bag, using a permanent marker, put your child’s name and their teacher’s name, ex. (Mrs. Scott- Katie Thomas). The plastic bag keeps everyone safe, the items contained and allows us to deliver the bag to your child’s teacher so he/she can account for returned items later in the summer.
How will this work:
- Please have a sign with your student(s) first and last name displayed in the window of your car to limit contact and expedite the process. This could simply be a paper with names written on it.
- Pull into lot and follow the flow of traffic as we will attempt to work with 2-3 cars at one time.
- Close to the collection area, we will separate the line – if you have a rental iPad to return, you will stay to the right, if you do not have a rental iPad to return, you will stay to the left.
- Open your window and share your child’s teacher and your child’s name so we can mark your name off the chart.
- There will be stations in the staging area. You will hand over your rental iPad, textbook, library book, and a bag of teacher items at the appropriate station.
- If you pre-ordered a yearbook, you will stop at the yearbook station and give your last name to collect your yearbook.
- Thank you for your patience and flexibility during this time!
- We miss you and can’t wait for us to be together again soon!

Second Step Home Links
We are continuing our Social-Emotional learning using the Second Step curriculum. Students in every grade level have covered topics such as skills for learning, empathy, and emotional management.
Below are home links for the Second Step videos and lessons. You can review with your child the concepts that the classrooms have already covered and look ahead to what they will be learning.
These are a great way to get involved in the Social-Emotional learning of your child.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call me.
Thanks!

From the PTO
A heartfelt thanks to all who have helped make this year a successful one for the PTO. Money is still trickling in, but to date we have raised $31,756.73, including $3507 in our recent silent auction. Whether you have volunteered, attended meetings or events, supported fundraisers, or generously donated, your involvement has made a difference for the students and staff at FES, and your contributions are greatly appreciated.
Looking for a way to be more involved? We have openings for a secretary and a co-vice president on our PTO executive board for the 2020-2021 school year. Serving on the executive board is a great way to meet other parents, get to know the school administrators and staff, feel more connected, and have a direct impact on our school community. If you have an interest or would like to know more about the responsibilities and commitment of either position, please email Amy Freytag at loosenac@yahoo.com.
