September 3rd (Kinder - 2nd)

Topic: Zest


We will be talking to students today about Zest. Start off by showing them the zest poster in your classroom. Read it and talk about zest with them.Then, show them the short video clip below: titled View The Pass It On: Values.While they are watching it, tell them to look at the people in the video and try to guess what they are feeling.

Follow up with this:

How can you tell that the person/people in the clip were happy?

What types of activities/things make you happy?

How can we have zest even when we're doing something that is not our favorite activity?

Follow up with having them share how they would like to be zesty this week.

(Some examples: Smile when working or talking to people, look interested in what other people are saying, think positively when working on something they don't like.)

September 3rd (3rd - 5th)

When do you show the least amount of zest?

Why is it important to have zest for things that we don't like or are challenging?

What is an area where you would like to show more zest?

Follow up with having them share how they would like to be zesty this week.

(Some examples: Smile when working or talking to people, look interested in what other people are saying, think positively when working on something they don't like.)

Take it a step further: Encourage them to celebrate one another in the up and coming weeks when they see someone showing zest!
