Important Documents
We also ask that you fill out the Intent to Return form to let the school know whether or not your child will be returning for the 2019-2020 school year.
Jog-A-Thon
Our Jog-a-thon is only 6 days away! Please make sure your children are reaching out to family members and neighbors to raise money to support Eastwood! The Jog-a-thon is a great event that promotes exercise while supporting our school. Our theme this year, “Laps for Laptops,” supports our vision of being a 1-to-1 school. The district funded Eastwood to have a ratio of 1 computer to every 2 students. We value having access to a device at all times to provide students with individualized learning opportunities and prepare them for their future world. Funds we raise will help pay for the devices we've purchased this year and ensure this continues. Thank you for your support!
Mush for Gold
If you would like to volunteer for the assembly, we now have an opening. It will be from 10:30-12:00. Thank you.
Black History Month
Parent Corner: Teaching for Mastery
Parent Corner: Social-Emotional Learning
From our perspective, when a child doesn't understand something in math - we teach them. When a child isn't reading or isn't comprehending what they read - we teach them. This same practice applies for us when students are not sure how to act, how to behave, how to interact with others, or how to manage their emotions - we teach them rather than apply a punishment. Part of this learning does include experience consequences at times, but we are careful to teach through these consequences for the betterment of our students.
We encourage you to talk as a family about ways this could be implemented in your home as well.
2nd Grade
2nd Grade at a Glance
Language Arts
We will continue to take a closer look at informational text as we dive deeper into the lives and impact of heroes around us. We will use text and graphic features, such as pictures and captions, to help us better understand what we read.
Math
Now that we have mastered double digit addition with regrouping, we will be moving onto triple digit addition with regrouping! We will also continue to work on word problems to enhance our learning.
Social Studies
For our current Social Studies unit, our classes have begun studying about the Farm to Market process. We will be learning about natural, human, and capital resources and their roles in the business world. Students will become experts on the difference between a good and a service, as well as the difference between producers and consumers.
To better understand these concepts, 2nd Grade will start a Project Based Learning Activity later this week. Stay tuned for more information soon!
3rd Grade
3rd Grade at a Glance
Language Arts
This week, we are looking at descriptive adjectives and incorporating dialogue into our writing. We are using a lot of mentor text examples to see the great choices authors use when describing details and communicating in their stories.
Math
We are continuing our spiraling units. Over the course of the next two months, we will be concurrently teaching fractions, time, geometry, and measurement. Some students are "leveling up" on many units, while others are choosing to focus on a unit that matches their particular needs before they move on.
Science
We are learning about magnets and magnetic forces. The students have been moving objects using positive and negative charges and applied their knowledge to make magnetic door locks that moved in different ways.
Social Studies
This month's Social Studies unit is "Advancements in Technology." Our students have been learning about historical achievements in technology along with comparing and contrasting them to the achievements of modern day technology.
