Statewide Testing Begins This Week
Good Evening Mustang Families,
I hope everyone had a restful weekend! Next week at Marshall officially marks the beginning of statewide testing season. For the next four weeks, students will be testing on Tuesday-Thursday in English, Mathematics, and Science (8th graders only). Even though students may be testing each day, classroom content will continue. Students will still attend their normal schedule of class and will take the subject area test in their subject area class. For example, students will take the ELA exam during their ELA class and continue to attend all other classes.
Here are a couple of reminders for students:
- Make sure to get adequate sleep each night during the assessment window
- Arrive at school on time each morning (bell rings at 8:00 am)
- Eat a healthy breakfast at home. Breakfast is also available at school each morning in MPR.
- Refrain from scheduling routine dental/doctor appointments between the hours of 8:00 am- 2:40 pm on assessment days.
- IMPORTANT...Bring a fully charged SDUSD assigned computer, and a set of wired (non-Bluetooth) headphones, to school each day.
Finally, I just want to thank everyone for your commitment to state testing. While I realize that standardized testing does not identify and report all of the great things that are happening in our classrooms each day, it is an important measure for where students are with grade-level standards. It provides important feedback to parents about student progress and helps our school set achievement goals for next year and identify students who need additional intervention. If you have questions regarding the CAASPP assessment, please contact, Associate Principal Lauryn Edwards, our CAASPP Testing Coordinator at ledwards@sandi.net.
Have a great week!

New Event- A Library Of Us Experience at Marshall
Marshall Middle School is planning a Library of Us event. The Library of Us is a unique format that creates a safe space for sharing difficult questions and information about lived experiences between “books” and “readers”. It’s hard to hurt someone once you’ve heard their story. Adult human "books" from a wide array of experiences, will be available for "readers" to talk to and learn more about their experience in a positive, safe space. "Books" represent Military Veterans, disabled persons, Muslim, a Jewish Rabbi, member LGBTQIA community, and more. If you ever wanted to ask a question to a person living these experiences, this will be your chance in a safe and welcoming environment.
The Library of Us is designed to build a positive space for discussions that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through conversation.
Eid Mubarak!
We'd like to wish "Eid Mubarak" to all of our Muslim families! We're excited to share a wonderful display our MSA (Muslim Student Alliance) set up in our front office to celebrate Eid al Fitr, the conclusion of Ramadan. Thank you for all of the wonderful treats and for inviting our office to share in your celebration!
