October Second Step & PBIS Alignment
To further help our school be a safe and respectful place, we are going to use the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit to reinforce the PBIS pillars we continue to teach. In these lessons, students will learn specific skills to help stop bullying by being responsible and safe. Bullying is defined as: “an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening". -Taken from the National Center Against Bullying
Students will learn how to recognize when bullying is happening, report bullying to a caring adult, refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or others, and be a bystander who stands up and is part of the solution to bullying. Please discuss the importance of Recognizing, Reporting, and Refusing (3R’s) strategies with your child. Throughout the year, different social emotional topics will be taught through the classroom curriculum to promote social-emotional growth in all our students.
