Tustumena Elementary Newsletter

Septemeber 16, 2014

Hello Tustumena Families,

Thank you to all our volunteers and runners for the Tustumena 5K run last Saturday. It was a great day filled with a lot of people having fun and supporting our school. A special thanks to Cynthia Fudzinski for being our organizer and #1 cheerleader. Close to $1000 was raised.

I would also like to thank Craig Taylor Equipment for donating the use of a Bobcat and posthole digger for our School Yard Habitat Garden project. We have the posts in place and will be working on finishing the assembly to make our garden spot "moose resistant," (because nothing is moose proof.)

We have a district-wide, site council meeting at 6pm on October 9th. Our Tustumena Site Council will be hosting this event. We will project the "district" part of this event on a screen and there will be opportunity for input and questions. If you have any district level questions you would like me to forward for the meeting, please email them to me at: dhayman@kpbsd.k12.ak.us.

One more reminder, we have an early release/collaboration day, tomorrow. Kids get out of school at 2:05. All bus schedules will be 1.5hrs ahead of their normal time. Our teacher will be working with me on creating Student Growth Maps. These maps will guide our instruction to assure every child makes at least one year's academic growth each year.

We have the honor of welcoming Brenna and Braxton Cox to our school this fall. This husband and wife team are observing and helping out in Tustumena classrooms until December as part of their teacher preparation classes. I think they have picked a great school and awesome teachers to learn from.

Finally, our school, The Eagles Club, and Kasilof Community Church, will be hosting our "Trunk or Treat" event again this year. Because the holiday falls on a Parent/Teacher conference day, there will be no school on Halloween, but we will have Trunk or Treat and our Fall Carnival on October 31st. The Trunk or Treat starts at 5pm. The carnival starts at 6pm and is over at 8pm. There will be prizes, games, and spooky stuff, so please plan on attending with your children.
