Bright - "A School to Emulate!"

A Fresh Start - 8/29-9/2/16

We Made It!

We made it through the first week of school. We had way more successes than challenges. Let's keep the momentum going as we continue throughout the year.

I had a ball at Good Morning Bright! You may have noticed that I LOVE to dance. Feel free to join in if you feel the beat. We will have a time for students to show their school spirit by coming up with and chanting their grade level cheer at many of the GMBs. The first opportunity is Friday, September 2nd. You have a week to get ready. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Curriculum Night is Thursday, September 1st from 5 - 6:30 pm. We will hold 2 identical sessions (5 - 5:45 & 5:45 - 6:30). Parents will have flexibility to choose what works best for them. Kari will be working with grade levels on the logistics.

Our custodial staff is working hard to keep the building clean. They are asking that we stack the chairs each night before we leave and make sure that pencils, crayons, etc. are not left on the floor.

During our Professional Learning prior to school starting, we made a list of commitments/promises to ensure we are becoming a school to emulate. Click this link to check out our promises and make your personal commitment to Bright.

Many have asked about dress code on Mondays and Fridays. On Mondays we are all free to wear our Team Bright polos and on Fridays spirit wear with jeans.

If you have not already done so please make a positive contact to the parents of the students in your homeroom. This small act goes a long way.

Thanks everyone and let's have a great week!

Instructional Highlights_You Got Caught...

Kristen V. introduced fair vs. equal using bandages. A great way to help students understand the difference. Alison, Kellee & Yvette implemented purposeful morning meetings/community circles. The information was relevant and the strategies were intentional. Corey & Kate challenged students with team building activities. They were creative and pushed the students to stretch their thinking. Keesha explicitly taught what "real" reading looks like as students began readers workshop. There is great instruction happening all around the building. Check here each week for staff highlights.

A kindergarten student was in the bathroom. All of a sudden he started screaming, "Ooouucchh! It won't come out!"

Great Job!

Laurie for talking privately to a student on the 1st day of school and telling him that it's a "fresh start!" Yukki for helping out in 2nd grade during Meet the Teacher and soothing babies to give their parents uninterrupted time. Kristen C. & Veronica for being patient and positive with one of our 1st grade students who is working to adjust. Melissa for greeting students as they walk in the building with a high five and a smile. Angela & Heather for organizing and pulling off a successful Good Morning Bright.
