Science
In between unit lessons, Coach Ward's 7th Grade Science class makes time to take care of their classroom pets: 1-year-old axolotls Betty, Butter & Chungus (all female). Since axolotls are carnivores, students help clean and feed various types of worms (pictured are California Blackworms, a staple of the axolotl diet) to Betty and her crew. They even inspected a plant leech (a common friend of the blackworm) under the microscope!
CTE
The career and Technical Education Department are busy creating, learning, and researching away. The students in Engineering and Arts/AV have been learning drafting and graphic design using Adobe Illustrator and SketchUp. These skills will help them to prepare for future high school certifications. In Introduction to Programming, students have been creating their own Ping Pong and Dodgeball games. In Principles of Business, Marketing, and Finance students are creating stories in Scratch on Bullying, Revolutionary War, Racism, and other chosen themes. These same students are also busy creating PowerPoint Presentations on different types of Cancers in the world raising awareness. The keyboarding class is learning the keys and the keystrokes in association with the speed in addition to accuracy. These students are focusing on learning to type without looking at the keys.
