Happy New Year! There are lots of important updates/opportunities in this newsletter. The dates for the Lincoln Co. Fair have been out for awhile (see the schedule included). Please be watching as we hope to set the Logan & McPherson dates soon.

Building Better Babysitters Classes
This is a great opportunity for youth that want to gain vital skills in caring for children!
We are now offering two different options! A one-day Friday course, or a 7 week course.

Public Speaking Workshops
Miss Amber will be hosting Public Speaking workshops again this winter to help 4-H’ers prepare for the county Public Speaking contests next spring. The main goals of these workshops is to help youth gain confidence in public speaking, and develop a speech and/or presentation for the county contest.
If you are interested in taking part in these workshops, but the dates do not work, please contact Amber at amber.willard@unl.edu. If there is enough interest, a second series of workshops will be offered at another time.
Lincoln County 4-H Council Garage Sale
We are accepting donations of gently used items for our garage sale fundraiser! Please call ahead if you have larger items so we can accommodate them (308-532-2683).
The sale will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) & Saturday, January 22, 2022 (9:00 a.m. - 12 noon) at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in North Platte (Centennial Hall).
*We will be setting up on Thursday, January 20 and can accept items that day at the fairgrounds.
**All proceeds support the Lincoln County 4-H Council Lincoln County 4-H Open House
Make plans to join us on Sunday, February 27, 2022 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in North Platte for our Open House event! There will be hands-on project demonstrations and on-site registration available! If your club would like to set up a table please let us know.
Lincoln Co. FCE Scholarship
$500 AGRICULTURE/FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP
1. The applicant must be a resident of Lincoln County, Nebraska.
2. The applicant must be a high school senior who plans to receive a degree in an agriculture or family & consumer science related field.
3. The scholarship must be used at an accredited Nebraska institution of higher education.
4. Academic ability, community activities, and future plans will be considered in selecting the scholarship recipient.
5.Must be used within the following school year.
6.Application must be complete to be considered.
Application must be returned by March 1

- 4 and 5 day residential camp sessions available for ages 8-18.

Special Garden Project
The 2022 Special Garden Project will be the Rubenza Cosmos, whose flower petals change color as they age. This project gives youth the resources to try growing a new or unusual plant. Learn more at

The Nebraska Extension Special Agronomy Project gives 4-H members an opportunity to experience a crop that is grown, was grown or has the potential to be grown in Nebraska. Youth participate by receiving seed and resources to grow the crop, research traits of the crop and determine the viability of that crop in the part of the state they live. The project allows 4-H members interested in agronomy to grow something fun, new, and different.
The focus of the 2022 Special Agronomy Project is Broomcorn Sorghum. Broomcorn can be used for ornamental uses in floral arrangements or harvested for broom-use prior to seed maturity. To participate in the Special Agronomy Project, enroll in the project through 4-H Online.

Farrowed & Owned Swine Cohort
The Nebraska 4-H Farrowed and Owned Swine Cohort is an opportunity for 4-H members interested in learning more about the swine industry. Participants engage in learning opportunities throughout the year, gain knowledge related to their 4-H swine project, practice good record-keeping related to swine management and basic care, and exhibit their farrowed and owned swine project animal at the Nebraska State Fair. Applications for the 2022 Cohort are open now through February 1st. Learn more at

Nebraska 4-H Livestock Achievement Program
This opportunity for enrolled livestock project youth, is designed to promote all educational aspects of 4-H livestock projects including selection, production, leadership, and exhibition by recognizing youth striving to improve in their livestock project knowledge and leadership.
The program recognizes Members of Excellence across all 4-H livestock project areas, including: beef, sheep, meat goat, swine, dairy cattle, dairy goat, rabbit, and poultry.
The program consists of two levels that require 4-H members to plan and report a broad range of age-appropriate and project-related accomplishments. For each level, the Livestock Achievement Program provides a list of accomplishments from which 4-H members choose their goals. Each accomplishment is worth a specific number of points.
Applications/Sign up are due June 15th through the application form link on the website. Plan and Reports, as well as Project Records will be due August 10 via the completion form on the website. Youth completing the achievement program and receiving member of excellence recognition in the various species will be recognized during the Parade of Champions, 4-H weekend at the Nebraska State Fair.

The Nebraska 4-H Livestock Information Series is a resource for 4-H members, leaders, and parents to gain knowledge in various livestock-related topic areas. Each session, a new topic is covered with experts joining to share their experience and expertise. Extended learning opportunities and supporting documents are also available for each topic.

Nebraska 4-H Foundation Scholarships
Nebraska Senior High School 4-H’ers, that may be moving on to secondary education-Nebraska 4-H Foundation has several scholarships that are available for them to apply. The Nebraska 4-H Foundation awards up to $22,000 worth of scholarships each year to 4-H’ers from across the state.
To apply for scholarships, 4-H’ers must submit the Nebraska 4-H Achievement Application for state-level review by January 15th. Specifics about the scholarships can be found on their website:
