BOOK FAIR FEBRUARY 16-23
Our Scholastic Book Fair will be February 16-23. Please visit our web site to preview books, see the hours that we will be open and more!
Special Note: The Book Fair will be open from 12 to 4 pm on Monday, February 19th, President's Day.
BOOK FAIR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
Did you LOVE going to the Book Fair as a child? If you answered YES then we would LOVE to have you volunteer to help out our second Book Fair. The Book Fair is a great time to get to know Suwanee Elementary and the Media Center staff. We have fun setting up and decorating for the Book Fair, helping students make Wish Lists, helping students with shopping, and we even have fun packing it all away when it is over. You and your child(ren) will earn a 10% discount if you are able to volunteer.
Please click below to access the volunteer sign-up. We can't wait to meet you!
Parent Teacher Conferences
7 ways to get the most out of parent-teacher conferences
- Talk to your child before the conference. What are his favorite subjects? Least favorite? Why? Anything he’d like you to know beforehand? Emphasize the positive nature of this meeting.
- Be prepared. Write down your questions and information you’d like to share. Any changes at home, such as a new baby or a family member’s illness that might have an impact on your child’s schoolwork? Bring paper and pen so you can take notes.
- Arrive on time and work with the teacher to stay within the set meeting time. If you have more to discuss, arrange a follow-up visit.
- Ask for specifics about your child’s work and progress. What will she be expected to master? How is she doing? What about behavior and social skills? Talk to the teacher about your child’s study habits and what you’ve observed about work done at home.
- Have an open mind. If your child is having problems—whether academic, behavioral, or social—you and your child’s teacher both want the same, positive outcome. Ask questions, but also listen. The conference is an important time to work together for an honest assessment of your child’s progress.
- Determine the best way to stay in touch. Regular notes, e-mails, and calls will help create and maintain the important home-school connection.
- Follow through at home. You and your child’s teacher may come up with some at-home strategies to try. Touch base and let the teacher know how things are going.

Let's Celebrate our Heritage!
Fairy Tale Ball - 1st Grade
During the fairy tale unit that the first graders study in school, the children compare and contrast, sequence, retell, recreate, and analyze characters from fairy tales. We also review point of view as we read a variety of fairy tales. After reading several fairy tales, the children will pick a favorite fairy tale character to dress up as. Our culminating activity will be the Fairy Tale Ball. The Fairy Tale Ball will take place on March 29, 2018. Please refer to your teacher's newsletter for additional information or email Ms. Sandi Martinez.

Safety and Security
All schools have safety and security plans. The plans are designed with the help of school security and support staff members, as well as local law enforcement, emergency management, and public health officials. Plans are reviewed and updated regularly. These plans include procedures to respond to critical incidents such as tornados, medical emergencies and criminal acts. All staff members are trained on procedures to handle issues related to safety and security.
