Mason Moose Minutes October 15
Teamwork it is! One Mason, One Family, One Team!
Message from the Principal
Happy Friday once again! This week has been a special week, because the Mason team and I truly value every opportunity we have to collaborate with you as a team to address the needs of our students! Thank you for all of your feedback and support during Parent Teacher Conferences! For parents who joined conferences via Zoom, please know that teachers will be sending home the Conference Goal Setting Report along with the Individualized Reading Improvement Plan (IRIP) for students in Y5s-3rd grades if your student has one. Students with an IRIP will need to bring it back signed and return it to the teacher.
As announced yesterday, the Color/Fun Run had to be rescheduled due to the expected rain/weather! A shout out to Mrs. Sledz for all of her hard working preparing for this event, along with Mr. Sledz for all of his support with the Mason Moose mascot! The PTO will be looking at rescheduling this later in the Spring, and we look forward to sharing some fun at that time! Please know that the Prize Patrol will be coming out to Mason once again next Wednesday, and will follow up with the rewards students have earned after the last day of fundraising on Friday, October 22! I look forward to having lunch with the students who have earned this as a reward, along with the silly string event!
I also want to give a special shout out to Ms. Nash and Mrs. Brennan and the PTO for taking care of the Mason family at Parent Teacher Conferences and providing the staff with a special dinner! You are truly appreciated!
Please kindly be reminded of the following:
* Picture Retake Day is Friday, October 22, 2021! If you would like for your student to retake the pictures, please have the original pictures sent back on this day! Pictures arrived today and should be coming home with your student. If a student missed the original picture day, this is a great opportunity as well!
* We recommend that each student bring a water bottle to school to be able to fill up at the water filling stations. While the PTO has graciously supplied the main office with water bottles, this may not always be available and we ask that each student please bring one to school.
Thank you sincerely for your ongoing support and partnership in addressing our students' needs. We continue to move forward as One Mason, One Family, One Team! If you need anything in the meantime, please know you can contact me via email at Hassana@gpschools.org or by phone at (313) 432-4404. As always....Teamwork it is! Together we learn, we lead, and we lift!

Kind Morning Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
* Students should not be playing at the playground in the morning or on the blacktop. Please kindly remind your student.
* Please DO NOT PARK, nor double park on Charlevoix Rd as this is a drop off area during morning arrival and dismissal times. We want to be proactive about this so that parents are not ticketed for parking there, and students are safe to be dropped off.
* Additionally, during morning arrival, let us try to park in the parking spots which tend to be available if you intend to walk your child to the blacktop, and please DO NOT PARK in the drop off circle so that it indeed is a drop off circle for all students to be dropped off safely.

Communities United In Diversity
All GPPSS parents are invited to join our Communities United in Diversity group and participate in an ongoing conversation about topics related to diversity.
Our first meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the gym at Defer Elementary School, 15425 Kercheval, Grosse Pointe Park.
Please join Deputy Superintendent Roy Bishop, Defer Principal Lisa Rheaume, and facilitator Ginni Winters, school culture and equity consultant with Wayne RESA, as we discuss and reflect upon real situations our students are encountering on a daily basis and how we create awareness and appreciation of diversity in our community.
Ms. Winters has supported our efforts for many years and we welcome her back to GPPSS as she helps us to continue to value and embrace diversity in our school district.
Building Visitors and Volunteers
ATTENTION ALL PARENTS who are interested in volunteering during lunch and/or recess, please call the main office and ask to speak to Ms. Lyon. We would like to reflect a schedule of parent volunteers who are available to support on specific days, along with when we have indoor recess days. We appreciate all of your support!
If you are interested in being a volunteer at Mason, please know that we kindly need an ICHAT form to be completed with the main office staff at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled day. Thank you for your support and understanding!
