February 25th- March 1st
Highlights from our week:
Shared Reading - This week our class read the story Harry the Dirty Dog. Students really enjoyed hearing how a white dog with black spots turned into a black dog with white spots. Students used this story to practice sequencing events and retelling important story information.
Writing - Our focus for writing has returned to working on personal narratives or stories that have a clear beginning and ending. Students will be writing their own stories to include these parts and key details until their return from Spring Break. Students used their writing time this week to focus on proper capitalization of names and nouns. Students also began a writing project describing their morning at school.
Social Studies - Our class continued to study George Washington and Abraham Lincoln this week. On Friday our class completed a short writing project about one or two things they would do if they were president.
Math - This week our class continued learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Students practiced sorting these shapes based on their attributes and identifying the names of each shape. Students completed an assessment on these concepts on Tuesday. Lessons for this week also included creating paper quilt pieces using different combinations of the number 9 as well as symmetry. On Friday our class began learning about halves and fourths with a short introduction to fractions.
