Early life/ Education
Born into slavery gained freedom under the Emancipation proclamation. Became a teacher, in 1881 he founded the Tuskegee normal and industrial institute in Alabama.
Famous speeches/books/job titels
Atlanta compromise speech. He served as an advisor to U.S president. He was able to help Roosevelt and Taft select black candidates for nominal, traditionally black political position.

Atlanta compromise which was an agreement struck in 1895 between African Americans leaders and southern White leaders. He went from slave to college President + educator.
