Special Friends Day is fast approaching. We are in the planning process now. At this time it will be much like last year. The day will begin with Baptismal Remembrance chapel at Flatrock at 7:50am and culminate with lunch at about 11am. In between will be lots of fun activities, which will all occur at the Flatrock campus again this year.

This is also the final day for our food drive. Special friends and other adults are encouraged to bring non-perishable food to school that day for the offering. The food will go to St. Marks and St Joe Hessen Cassell food banks as has been the case in the past.

One change coming this year is that when you send in your lunch order (for the adults. Kids will be as normal), you will be issued a lunch ticket that you will pick up after chapel that morning. You will need to show that ticket to get your lunch.

The deadline to send in lunch orders for the adults will be Friday, November 9th. in the morning. Lunch tickets will not be available after that date. That doesn't mean other special friends can't come, it just means they will not be able to eat lunch unless it was ordered ahead of time. The cost for the adult lunches will be added to the student's lunch account. Please do not send any cash or checks in to pay for adult lunches.

A flyer with more details is attached right below this article. Please print, fill out and return ASAP.

Food Drive Begins Next Thursday

Our annual food drive begins next Thursday November 1st. All chapel offerings will go to purchase food for the food banks. The food banks benefited again this year are St Mark's in Monroeville and Hessen Cassell. My prayer is that all will be generous to help those in our community less fortunate than us. Thank you!

Hitting Clinic for SJE Students

This instructional hitting clinic is available for SJE students grades 4-8 (boys and girls). If there is enough interest for students K-3 another clinic time will be added. This camp will teach the fundamentals of baseball and softball hitting to teach players how to gain maximum power and velocity with their swing. We will educate hitters on the proper kinetic sequencing of the swing along with several drills that can be done at home to reinforce the proper sequencing learned at camp.

Proceeds from this camp will be shared 50/50 with the SJE athletic department. Maximum of 10 athletes per session.

When: November 4th 1:30-3:00 Where: St. John Gym Cost: $30 (Make checks payable to SJE)

*Camp is being instructed by Mindy Buuck. Mindy has 10 years of baseball/softball coaching experience at multiple levels of play. References available upon request. Call or text (260)701-2188 for any additional questions. Parents are welcome to stay and observe camp from bleachers. Participants should bring their own bat to use. If a participant does not have a personal bat, please contact Mindy in advance.

Please email or text the following information to Mindy Buuck ( by October 31st. Name of student, Grade, and phone number. Payment can be made on the day of the event.

SJE at Mad Ants for National Anthem

Mrs. Werling (the music teacher) and I are working on a date for SJE students to sing the National Anthem at a Mad Ants game. Of the dates that were given to us, January 19th works the best based on calendars we looked at. Please check your calendars and let Mrs. Werling know if there are any conflicts.

If it works out, the Mad Ants offer the following ticket package: $20 Lower level ticket, Mad Ants Scarf, Meal Voucher (Hot dog, chips, and drink), Welcome St. John-Emmanuel Lutheran School message, and go on the court to shoot layups and get player autographs after the game. If you don't want to pay $20 for the ticket package, you can also buy just the lower level ticket for $15, $10 upper level or $8 end zone tickets.

Volunteering at SJE

Please note the info in bold below and see where you might be able to help/volunteer.

**Please note that your volunteer hours this year (18-19) will reduce or eliminate up to $400 of the tuition increase/student set for the 19-20 school year.***

The Lutheran SGO for SJE

It's that time again to have a conversation about our SGO. We have many families that have filled out applications requesting funds to assist with their school tuition. This is a great way to help them. It allows the donor to donate funds to the SGO and receive a 50% Indiana state tax credit. If your donation is large enough, you can carry it over up to 8 tax years. Our need this year as of now is $19,500.00, of which we already have $2000.00. Please consider giving. There are so many ways to do so and more are coming in early 2019. Please visit the website for more info.
