District Health Update
The district is making the following changes based on new guidance from the Connecticut Department of Health:
- We are shifting our time toward “identification, early isolation, and clinical management of students and staff with active symptoms” and no longer conducting contact tracing investigations in our schools.
- If your child was a close contact of someone with COVID outside of school, please follow the quarantine timelines and procedures at https://www.trumbullps.org/Attachments/covid/2021/ContactTracing12-31-21.pdf
- We will continue to update our COVID dashboard each day so our community is well informed. In addition, each building principal will send a communication on any school day that they become aware of a positive case that resulted in a school based exposure. The letter will indicate the number of positive cases of students by grade level and will include any adult positive cases.
- As it relates to student and staff quarantine length, we will follow the guidelines provided in the DPH Letter. In general, quarantine lengths are being reduced to five (5) days for individuals who test positive for COVID, as long as the individual has been fever free for at least 24 hours and other symptoms are significantly improved.
- If a child is sent home from school due to symptoms consistent with COVID, then we will assume the child has COVID and follow the quarantine timeline at https://www.trumbullps.org/Attachments/covid/2021/ContactTracing12-31-21.pdf unless the school nurse receives a negative test result (PCR, antigen, home test) for the child. Again, we appreciate that the DPH is allowing PK-12 schools to utilize the new CDC guidance regarding lengths of quarantine. It will be important that we all monitor our symptoms and avoid work and school if we are sick. If your child is home isolating due to a positive test for COVID we will mark the absence as “Quarantine Excused” and we will continue to follow our established “Learning in Quarantine” process that we have been following all year long.
All students, staff and visitors are required to wear a mask. Also, we will continue to practice hand washing, the use of hand sanitizer and the importance of social distancing when feasible.

News from the 1st Grade Team
We have been enjoying lots of winter fun in First Grade and it has been fantastic! We have enjoyed learning about story problems and the number line as well as continuing our units on light, sound and penguins! We learned so much about Holidays Around the World during the month of December and have just begun reading and writing in our Nonfiction units! Everyone has been working so hard since we returned from break and we are looking forward to celebrating Penguin Day and the 100th Day of School soon! We hope that everyone enjoyed their holiday season and that you are continuing to ask your child about their school day to strengthen the bond of our Middlebrook community and increase conversations at home. Please continue to read with your child and practice skills while at home, whenever possible. Here’s to snowy days and a wonderful second half of First Grade!
News from the the 4th grade team
2022 is in full swing in Fourth Grade! For reading, students are working in groups to research non-fiction texts to gather information on extreme weather. This information will be organized and presented in slideshows. In writing, students are in the process of composing their opinion papers. They have worked hard to determine a topic they are passionate about, brainstorm ideas, and support them with mini stories. In math, students have been practicing division with three or four digit dividends, using the place value disk strategy to solve and multiplication to check their work. Please continue to practice basic (0-12) multiplication and division math facts at home! For science, the unit of study is Energy. Students are learning about different types of energy and the concepts of “transfer” versus “transform.” In social studies, we continue to journey around the United States, discussing regions and the people and places within them.
We thank you for your continued support for our work at Middlebrook School! As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or good news to share, please feel free to email me at dponte@trumbullps.org or contact me at school at 203-452-4411.
Warmly,
~Debbie Ponte
Kindness Connects Club Fundraiser!
The Kindness Connects Club will hold a “Color Day” fundraiser on Friday, January 21st. All money collected will be donated to the Hall Neighborhood House in Bridgeport, CT.
As an extra incentive, kindness members decided that the grade level which raises the most money will win a movie day. Teachers of the winning grade level can decide which movie and show it at a time that fits in their schedules.
MB Color Day 1/21 (bring in $1 to participate):
- Kindergarten: Red
- 1st Grade: Orange
- 2nd Grade: Yellow
- 3rd Grade: Green
- 4th Grade: Blue
- 5th Grade: Purple
A reminder will be sent out next week and we will announce the winning grade level as soon as the money is counted (hopefully by the end-of-day on the 21st).
Thank you as always for your support!
