Hello Rayen Early College Middle School Families and Scholars!

It has been my pleasure to meet so many wonderful Scholars and their families this year! If I have not met you yet, I look forward to meeting you! We will be reaching out to you all soon!

I was so happy to see so many families at our Orientation Meetings and Open House! Your attendance means so much to us and to your Scholar! We value your participation and look forward to getting to know you better! Please feel welcome here! This is your child’s home away from home for five days a week - so we truly all are one big RECMS family!

We are off to a fantastic start! Our Scholars seem to be enjoying their new school, new teachers, new courses, and new faces! I am truly proud of our RECMS Scholars! In the few short weeks that I have had with them so far, I am already seeing so many emerging leaders coming to the surface! We are a school of respect, whereby we are reminded that disrespect is not practiced here. We have seen an amazing growth in the way students treat others, whether it is a teacher, a classmate, a custodian, or a crossing guard - we treat each other the way we would want to be treated. I think that is the cornerstone of our school. Once respect is in place - we can only go up! And that is what we’re doing!

Our academics are in full swing, we have an amazing staff of Core Teachers, Specialists, Academic Coaches and CityKidsCare Helpers, Custodian/Kitchen workers, and Office Staff...everyone of them truly vested in their job! They are ALL dedicated to their job and dedicated to teaching to the whole child! It is evident as you walk through our hallways, or watch the interactions of our Staff with our Scholars! There is something very special here at RECMS! Come see for yourself! We welcome you at any time to stop in and say hello! Go Tigers!

Sincerely,

Dr. Maureen Donofrio, Ed.D

Staff Spotlight!

Hello RECMS Families,

I’m so happy to be a part of the RECMS Community this year! I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Patricia Lyden Yank and I have been assigned as RECMS Assistant Principal. I am so excited to be working alongside Dr. Maureen Donofrio, RECMS Principal.

Some of you may already know me since I previously served 4 years in the same position at P.C. Bunn Elementary School and I am starting my 40th year with the Youngstown City School District, most of those years as a Kindergarten teacher throughout the District. I grew up on the south side of Youngstown and attended Taft Elementary School, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. The Youngstown City School District is very near & dear to my heart! I take pride in giving back to the community which groomed me to be a successful adult.

I welcome your feedback and encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. My email address is Patricia.Lyden@youngstown.k12.oh.us and my phone number is (330) 744-7602, ext. 3663.

From the Desk of Mrs. James

Welcome October and Goodbye September!

Happy Autumn RECMS Families.

As we make a transition into fall, let's recap and discover some old and new policy and procedures. First Attendance, families when calling off a scholar you still need to send documentation of the absence sent to Ms. Herns, attendance secretary, whether a parent/guardian note or doctor excuse can be faxed, emailed or photo sent.

Second, updating contact information you call Ms. Samantha, school secretary @ 330-744-7602. If you are changing address she will need documentation a bill in your name from the new address or rental agreement, faxed, emailed.

Your scholar busing can not be changed until she received that documentation and it can take up to several days for transportation department to place them on a route.

Lastly, Sick or Quarantine Scholars, all assignment will be on Google Classroom. There is no need for a parent/guardian to come to the school for any work or books. All scholars have access from their Ipad to Google Classroom. If you need internet access you can request a hot spot from the district from the link below.
