Welcome To 4th Grade!

Mrs. Zavernik's Class!

Are You As Excited As I Am?

Hello! I hope this newsletter finds you and your student rejuvenated and prepared for another fabulous school year! I just wanted to send you all a quick letter introducing myself and to let you all know how excited I am for this school year! As you know there are a lot of exciting changes happening in our district and in education as a whole as we continue to transform learning in our classrooms to make sure your children are receiving the best, most cutting edge education that we can offer to prepare them for their futures wherever that may take them. On their journey through their education it is my job this year to help them grow not only as learners, but as people that are responsible, intrinsically motivated to achieve their goals and to build their confidence so that they can excel to greater heights than they ever imagined! Thank you for trusting me with your precious children this school year, I love teaching, it has always been my passion and I always think of your kids as my "own" kids, knowing that they are each unique and special! If at any time throughout the school year you have concerns or questions please do not hesitate to contact me using the information at the bottom of this page! Thank you!

A bit about me!

My name is Megan Zavernik, and I am (almost) 31 years old. This is my 9th year teaching 4th grade at Forest Glen. I graduated from St. Norbert College with my undergraduate degree and went on to obtain my reading specialist masters degree from Concordia University. I have been married to my husband Brett for 5 years, and we have two beautiful daughters: Brynn Leigh (3 years old) & Brayleigh Josephine (1 year old). We also have a 5 year old black lab named Leila.

In my free time, I love to spend time with my family, take walks and just have quiet me time! One of my most favorite things that you're children will catch right away is how much I live for COFFEE! Mrs. Z seems to always have a latte in hand. I consider myself to be pretty technology savvy and am really excited about our new technology initiative that we're implementing this year! You will notice that most of what we do in our classroom will be centered around technology, after all, I'm preparing your children for their future and it's crucial that they have skills necessary to be successful in an ever changing technologically advancing society!

I feel that it's extremely important for me to share not only who I am as a professional, but also who I am as a person with my students/families to build that trust and connection with each of you! I truly enjoy teaching and hope that your family is prepared for the best 4th grade year ever!

These are a few of my favorite things.....

  • Starbucks Lattes
  • Books by Jodi Picoult
  • Sushi
  • Pinterest
  • Diet Coke

As you already know, the district is moving in the direction that supports the 21st century learner, which means YOUR STUDENTS! This is an amazing initiative that is going to enhance your students' education and engage him/her in learning opportunities that would not have been possible even a few years ago! Please click on the link below to read about our digital transformation!

Remember: Ipad distribution for your student is September 5th (during the school day!)
Your child cannot take his/her ipad home until you have paid the $35 insurance fee for the device. Please make sure you take care of that ahead of time either online or contact the school office with questions!

I can't wait to meet you at open house!

A few last thoughts!

Thank you again for trusting me with your children this school year. I promise that it will be a fun filled year with authentic engaging learning experiences that will help shape who are as learners! Please note: I put almost everything you need to know on our classroom weebly website, from homework assignments, to class newsletters each week, surveys and FAQ about our classroom. Please explore the website with your student (see link below) or CLICK HERE to get to know your way around it and reference it daily to keep yourself informed of what is going on in our classroom. I think that in order for your student to have success in school, the communication lines between us need to be established!

It's important for me to know about your child's learning journey so far! You know your student the best, and I'd appreciate if you and your student could complete the following form by clicking on the link below. You can print it out and bring it to open house, or on the first day of school or you can write your answers on another sheet of paper as well. Your student will receive 5 Timber Tail Tokens and be entered in a class raffle for completing this 1st assignment for class!
