UIL Science Team Tryouts

Tuesday, Jan. 20th, 4:15pm

2606 Panther Creek Parkway

Frisco, TX

Meet in the Lecture Hall, C100, to compete for a spot on the team.

The purpose of the Science Contest is to challenge high school students to do a wide range of reading in biology, chemistry and physics, to gain an understanding of the significance of experiments rather than to recall obscure details, to be alert to new discoveries and information in the areas of science, to gain an understanding of the basic principles as well as knowledge of the history and philosophy of science, and to foster a sense of enthusiasm about science and how it affects our daily lives.

The contest consists of a two-hour objective test with 60 questions – 20 from biology, 20 from chemistry and 20 from physics.

We will meet for practices once every two weeks before the competition on Saturday, April 11th here at Lone Star High School. This is a great opportunity to represent your school and build your resume. Top scorers in each of the three subject areas (biology, chemistry, and physics) and top teams of four qualify for the next level of competition. These competitions will be the Regional Meet at SFA in Nacogdoches April 23-25th and the State Meet in Austin on May 26-28th.

The papers of all competitors will be graded uniformly on the following basis: six points will be given for all correct answers, no points will be given or subtracted if unanswered, and two points will be deducted for an incorrect answer.
