## Spring Break!

I hope you all had a fantastic spring break. As some of you may know, I got the opportunity to go home to England for the week. I traveled up to Scotland to spend some precious time with my Mum and I have included pictures of the amazing views. I then traveled down to England to be a bridesmaid for my best friend's (of 20 years!) wedding. I have added a photo of this too. It was great to see my family, as I have been away nearly 9 months.

## EOG'S

EOG's will soon be upon us and I have been talking to the children about the importance of making the most out of every lesson and listening carefully as we revise for the tests. Over the next few weeks, we will be using some of the time in class to go over past skills and review strategies that they will need for the tests.

Please support your child during this time, as homework will become more challenging and we will expect more hard work in class. Your child may struggle with homework at times, but please give them the time to answer the questions (even if they are wrong) and then sit with them and help them. We will be working through the homework questions in class so they understand what to do and how to solve a problem. Please also encourage your child to bring home their notebooks, as all questions for homework are skills taught in class.

If you have any questions about the EOG's or specifically related to your child, please email me and I will be happy to help in any way I can.

## What's been happening...

Reading: This week we have continued to learn about folktales and traditional tales. Next week we will be identifying the message and moral in stories. In class, we will be applying skills to reading selections and working through these as a class, discussing strategies for identifying evidence to support answers. It is REALLY important that when your child is answering reading questions, that they prove their answer by finding the evidence that supports their answer.

Writing: This week we began to use Board Builder to present our Planets non-fiction writing. Next week we will continue to develop our board by including media.

Math: This week we began our unit on fractions. We learned about what a fraction is and how to identify the fraction of a shape. Next week we are continuing to identify fractions on a number line and begin comparing them in order of size. This is a huge part of the EOG, so if you could work with your child on these questions at home, that would be very beneficial to their learning.

Science: We have started our unit on plants and soil. From next week, we will only be doing science 3 times a week so we can use some extra time to work through homework questions for math and reading.

Please email me with any questions you have about your child's learning. I will be more than happy to help in any way I can.

## NEXT WEEK...

• Field Trip to Porter Ridge High School is on Tuesday. We will leave school at 10:30 and return by lunch time.

## STAR AND TABLE OF THE WEEK

This week's star was Danielle. Danielle has only been in our class for a few weeks but she has settled in really well. She is working hard and is a great addition to the class. Keep it up Danielle!!
This week's table of the week is the yellow table. They work well as a table and help each other out. They have been ready for each lesson and have participated well. Thank you!
