What's Happening, Patriots?
Mrs. Kremer's Third Grade
Emi and Jackson are playing Bump.
“It’s a fun way to help me remember my math facts,” says Emi.
Layla and Sadie are playing Connect Four Subtraction.
“It helps me practice my math facts,” says Layla.
Mrs. Littlejohn's First Grade
Mrs. Littlejohn’s first grade class got the opportunity to participate in an author’s study on the author, Todd Parr.
Students created a chart of all the craft moves Todd Parr does that they wanted to try out in their writing. After a drawing tutorial and creating our list, we began to try them out in our writing.
Students created their own books using Todd Parr’s style of writing. As a class, we made a class book together celebrating the many ways we are all different!

Counselor's Corner
Hi HPE families!
So far, I have introduced you to the blue and green zones. This week's focus is the YELLOW Zone. We describe the yellow zone as a heightened state of alertness. A person may be experiencing stress, frustration, anxiety, excitement, silliness, nervousness, confusion, and many more slightly elevated emotions (wiggly, squirmy, or sensory seeking). In the yellow zone, a person is starting to lose some control but still may feel some sense of internal control.
To help regain control and calm the body, students can try:
Taking deep breaths
Taking a walk
Thinking happy thoughts
Drawing
Thinking about the size of the problem vs. reaction
Using a fidget
Taking a break
As always, please reach out if you have needs or questions!
Have a great weekend!

Vision Screenings for 1st Grade & 3rd Grade
Vision screening is required by the Indiana State Board of Health for all 1st and 3rd graders. All 1st and 3rd graders will be screened on September 23rd.. Near and far vision will be screened, the results are pass or fail. You will only be notified if your student fails the screening test. If your child wears glasses or contacts, please make sure they have them at school during the day of screening for accurate testing results. If you have any questions, please contact our school nurse Jenny (Jleonard@hse.k12.in.us).
Covid Information
Please remember to send your student to school healthy. If a student is ill and has any of the symptoms of Covid listed below, we encourage you to get your student tested using a PCR test, which is available via Fishers Health Department (COVID Testing | Fishers, IN - Official Website) or the Indiana Department of Health (ISDH - Novel Coronavirus: COVID-19 Testing Information). PCR tests are the most accurate and provide less risk of a false positive or negative result. A visit to your physician is also suggested if you feel this is not Covid-related, then a doctor's note would be needed for your student to return to school. Please do not send your child to school ill or while waiting for Covid test results.
Symptoms to monitor for:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of Breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore Throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
Response to Instruction (RtI) is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matched to student needs and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.
