Looking Forward to Spring Break
We are counting down the days!
Dear Cub Nation,
Let's reflect on what our community has endured over the last few weeks, and really who are we kidding- this last year, we've been hit by one crisis after another. For more than a year now, COVID-19 has impacted our daily lives. Then winter storm Uri, interrupted learning for a week as district and campus doors were forced to close. Many of our teachers and students lost electricity and barely had water. Mrs. Kohring was pictured bundled up attempting to stay warm in her freezing house all while continuing her obligation to her students. This is just one example of how in collaboration with our families and community, Brenham ISD is Committed to an Exceptional Education for ALL students. Our students and staff have demonstrated one time after another that their resilience will NOT be shaken. We wouldn't want to weather the storm with anyone else. Our students and staff make us #CubProud!
We have important updates to share, so please scroll down.
As always, thank you for staying engaged!

The BISD Education Foundation raised $49,036 at the 16th annual Arts and Appetizers event. Emerging artists from the Brenham Independent School District showcased and auctioned their brilliant art pieces during the event held in the ballroom at Ant Street Inn. This year’s event was held both live and virtually. Navigating the social-distancing standards, the Silent Auction was open a week before the event and was available at the live event through QR codes. The online silent auction received an abundance of support virtually and was a huge success. Multiple remote bidders registered early and kept the silent auction engaging, while those present were actively competing against the online bidders. The auction was streamed to the remote audience via Zoom, and provided bidders the opportunity to place their bids in the comments. This added excitement and healthy bid wars, and was entertaining to hear auctioneer, Rusty Mertink, engage with the remote and live audiences. Multiple sponsors, local officials, community members, parents, and BISD staff adapted to the change and allowed for a very successful event.
Preliminary totals from the BISD Education Foundation reflect a total of $49,036 raised during the event, both live and virtually, surpassing last year’s total of $46,011 by $3,025! This year, $24,702 was brought in through the live and silent auctions, $6,110 was raised by the raffle tickets, and $18,100 was donated to the Foundation through donations and sponsorships.
The Brenham ISD Education Foundation will distribute the funds raised at the event to sponsor teacher mini-grants for items to use in classrooms. Anyone who was not able to attend the event, but wishes to contribute to the BISD Education Foundation, can mail their gift to 2211 South Day Street #330, Brenham, Texas 77833 or go online to the following link: https://www.brenhamisd.net/page/edfound.donate

Nearly 900 Brenham ISD students at the Brenham Junior High School campus received “friendship cards” from the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) students on campus. The unique and customizable cards are a simple way to help brighten a student's day. Approximately 60 NJHS students in Ms. Jessica Fritsch’s class are helping bring this project to fruition.
“I think this project is a phenomenal idea that is sure to make a huge impact on the BJHS campus. We asked our NJHS members what they felt the student body needed most, and their response was friendship,” said Jessica Fritsche. “With COVID-19 going on and all of the regulations we have to follow, it has been more difficult to befriend others - especially those new to our district. The current state of our world has taken a toll on many of our students, so we’re just trying to add a little light back into their lives. With this project, our NJHS leaders are reminding every student that they matter and that they’ve always got a friend at BJHS.”
The “friendship cards” along with a piece of candy were delivered to students the last week of February.
