NAWIC
Oklahoma City #383
President Message
I love this time of year. There is so much going on with NAWIC, our jobs, the weather, LOL. We submitted our Block Kids winner to Regionals on February 13. I think we have a strong chance of winning again. Our Cheers Gorgeous Social was a success. It was all fun and games until the first gift was stolen.
We finalized our WIC Week events. Please see the schedule below. We will add our flyer to Facebook and will be sending that out in an email to all members. I encourage all members to try and attend as many of these as you can. This is for all of us to get to know each other better, have some friendly competition and talk to some young women about construction.
Our next meeting is March 13 at Minick Materials from 11-12pm at 326 N Council. This will be a lunch and learn, so please wear or bring comfortable walking shoes. Minick Materials will graciously provide lunch. We will also be accepting any donations towards our chapter funds.
In April we have a South Central Forum on the 5th and 6th in San Antonio, Texas. If possible you should try and attend. There will be learning sessions, workshops, networking opportunities and some guest speakers. We will have an advertisement in the book this year and will pay for 2 members registration if anyone needs help with that.
There is a lot going on behind the scenes with our WIC Week, Events and Nominations committees. If you get a chance, please thank them for all they do for our chapter.
I am so proud of our chapter and our members. We keep growing and reaching young women in our communities. If you have something you would like to discuss at one of our meetings or something you think we need to be a part of or if there is a group of young women we need to reach out to, please don't hesitate to bring this up or you can email me personally at Donnita.dewey@nabholz.com.
Seeing the world through the eyes of a child reminds us that extraordinary miracles are found in the most ordinary of places.
Until next month, be safe.
Donnita

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Sydney Coon
Sydney is from Edmond, Oklahoma, she works for Van Hoose Construction as the office manager. Although being the office manager doesn’t mean she is in the office every day behind a desk. Tell us about your typical day. “Every day is completely different; some days I am in the office and some days I am on the jobsite.”
Where did you go to college? “I went to the University of Central Oklahoma and received my Bachelors of Science.” After college, awaiting the perfect career opportunity, she started at Van Hoose as a part time receptionist. That opportunity made itself very clear, that this is where she wanted to build her future. Wearing many hats in our office is sometimes a challenge, but I truly enjoy working in the field. From meeting the client, seeing their vision and ideas, to the finished product, that is truly the best part of the job. Being the office manager has some perks, I get to bring my dog Scarlet to work with me. She makes a great mascot and our NAWIC Chapter has adopted her as their mascot too.”
Tell us something unique about yourself – “I love to garden!! Wildflowers and butterfly gardens are my thing. I like to be outside with family as often as possible.”
Tell us about your family. “I am married to my best friend Jana and we have two boys, Tristan is 9 years old and Jett is 2 years old.
Do you have a favorite quote? My favorite quote is “Take the risk or lose the chance.”
What associations are you involved in? “NAWIC, ABC of Oklahoma and BOMA.”
Van Hoose Construction is located in Oklahoma City and is a commercial general contractor, doing mostly design build and construction management. We are small, family owned and operated, and love supporting other local business.
