Message from the Principal
Black Bear Families,
We had our first “live” PTA meeting in the library on Tuesday evening, after online meetings since before COVID. It was worth celebrating to bring people together in the same space, building new connections and reinforcing established ones. Our PTA has a robust schedule planned for our school this year, depending on volunteers. If you haven’t yet, please consider joining our PTA and volunteering for one of the events or activities this year.
Coming up this next week is our Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 29th from 5:30-7:00 PM. More details about this event are below. Don't forget the Bike Rodeo and Safety Fair being held at our school this Saturday, September 24th, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. The City of Tigard is sponsoring the activity and they have many fun activities planned including free helmets and bike rentals, helmet fittings and bike checkups, and bike activities for all ages. Get your bikes ready for the Walk and Roll to School day on Wednesday, October 5th!
One final item: I’d like to share my thanks to everyone for adhering to our expectations at dismissal. Out in front of our building, families are standing a respectful distance away from the front of the school when kids are coming out of the building. This is so helpful because it allows teachers clear sight lines to ensure our students end up with the right parent. Your cooperation is keeping our students safe, so thank you!
Working with you for our kids,
Jim

Fall Sports Fan Guidance
Dear Tualatin Elementary parents/guardians,
We are excited about the great start to our fall 2022 season! As we kick-off our fall sports season and our school communities come together in support of our high school teams, we are writing today to share some important reminders regarding the participation at events. We ask that our home and visiting fans adhere to the following guidelines when attending games:
With a dedication to the safety of our students and guests, all elementary and middle school students attending our high school games must be accompanied by an adult.
There will be designated locations at the high schools for students to be during games that include being in the main stadium seats or other identified areas. Students who are wandering and socializing in other areas will be asked to return to their seats.
No backpacks, outside food/drinks, sports balls, skateboards/bikes/motorized scooters.
No re-entry.
And finally, we ask everyone to be respectful. This includes being respectful of our school grounds, facilities, staff, referees and guests as well as demonstrating respectful language, good sportsmanship and respecting the direction given by our staff at these events.
We appreciate your support and help in sharing these expectations with your student(s).
Let’s work together to show our community how much pride we all have in our district and our schools, and how wonderful it is for us all to come together respectfully in support of our students.
Thank you!
Attention 5th Graders!
As we start this school year, we are excited to introduce a new leadership program. Our Den Leaders will be 5th grade students who are interested in volunteering and helping around our school. We are looking for students who are excited about helping, want to learn more about leadership, and love being a part of the Black Bear family! Events and activities will include helping both during the school day and at before or after school events!
Forms have been handed out by teachers and are in the newsletter attachments. Extras can also be picked up in the office. Complete this form and return it to your teacher before October 1st.
