3A: A Week at a Glance

Week ending September 25, 2015

A Note From Mrs. Adams

Just a few reminders...

Please remind your child to put his/her name on every single page of homework. This includes spelling homework. I've been receiving many spelling homework assignments with no name, and it becomes tricky for me to figure out whose it is. Please help by reminding them at home to write their name on their work. Thanks!

While on the spelling subject, in order to keep the kids more organized, it might be easier if they number their spelling words on their homework to know whether they included all 20 words. This will avoid any missed words.

The strings program will begin next Day 2 (next Friday). If your child is participating, please help them remember to bring their instrument every Day 2.

Thank you all for the kind emails yesterday. It was a very long day, round trip to Long Island in one day, but it was very nice to be with my family. Thank you for your condolences.

Guided Reading

We started guided reading this week. The kids chose a buddy (if they wanted) and read a guided reading book. Then we met as a group to discuss the book, as well as focus on the story structure of the book (character, setting, problem, events and solution).

Vocabulary Presentations

This was a fun way we shared our vocabulary words. Each group was assigned a word and had to come up with a way to present it to the rest of the class. Then we discussed what the words meant after their presentation. Enjoy watching the groups present!

Kahoot with Math

We played a review money game using Kahoot. As you can imagine, the kids really enjoyed playing! It's certainly a fun way to get their minds moving!

As you can tell by some of their intense faces, they enjoyed the challenge! :)

Rotary Club!

The Rotary Club of Haddonfield donated a dictionary to each third grader, a tradition they have been doing for several years! Thank you to the Rotary Club for volunteering your time and helping our children learn!

Science

We are getting ready to pollinate our plants! In order to pollinate them, we have to use what works best in nature... BEES! We created "bee sticks". Yes, we actually glued dead bees to a toothpick! Next week, once our flowers start to bloom, we will actually pollinate them with our bees' fuzzy bodies!

*Don't worry... no bee was harmed in the preparation for this lesson!
