RME Library Tales
PSJA ISD * Ms. Raychel ~ Librarian * 3rd Six Weeks
We've Been Getting Cozy With Great Books This Winter!
Students Throughout the School Have Been Reading at Every Opportunity
Emily, a 3rd Grader in Ms. Cardenas' class, took advantage of her comfy outfit to come in to the library to select a book she could cuddle up with. She selected, "I am Rosa Parks," which is part of the Ordinary People Change the World series. It's perfect timing, too, since Rosa Parks' anniversary of her arrest that lead to the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott on December 1, 1955.
RME Participates in the Global Event "Hour of Code"
Hour of Code Winners!
All students who participated and completed the Hour of Code requirement were entered into a drawing to win a backpack filled with prizes. Fifth grader, Said Salazar said, "I can't believe I won a prize for doing something that was so much fun!"
Coding lessons will become part of the RME Library experience as our Library Computer Lab & Research Center is completed.
RME Has Its First Ever Barnes & Noble Book Fair - And It Was A Success!
Thank you to everyone who participated in our B & N Book Fair!
With the help of our students, parents, and staff as well as the support of our community and friends, we were able to raise $545 with our first Barnes & Noble Book Fair! Those funds were used to get some much needed books, as well as some new products that will be used in our Maker Space and Robotics Lab! I am so excited to present these new items to the students of Reed-Mock!
Catherine Trevino Was Our Official "First B & N Book Fair Supporter" - Thank You!
Thank You ALL For Your Support!
While the new books flew off the shelves before I got a chance to snap a pic, here are some of the technology items we were able to purchase for our upcoming Robotics Room!
Drs. Reed & Mock Elementary Gets an Honorable Mention in the Dias De Los Muertos Altar Competition
The City of San Juan Recognizes Drs. Reed & Mock Elementary School
This award doesn't just go to the school, but to all of the students and teachers within its walls that participated in this event. At the City of San Juan meeting, our school was presented with an Honorable Mention for the altar that was created in our school in early November. We received an original work of art along with a trophy that was also a work of art. We are very proud that we were able to represent the wonderful students and teachers that worked on this project.
RME Library Stocking Decorating Contest
Students did a great job decorating paper stocking templates with their favorite book character. The winners of the contest are found below, but it was great to see how many entries we got!
Christmas Around the World
Learning About Other Cultures is Fun & Fascinating!
Student and teachers alike visited the library and the library's databases to learn all they could about the way various countries around the world celebrate the holidays. They discovered similarities and differences but overall they discovered that the children of the world have one thing in common: they love celebrating together!
We Are Continuing to Improve the Flow of the Library
The next project we have on the horizon is finding a way to include comfortable seating for individual quiet time and family time reading. The space is now available, so my new goal is to start saving up for furniture!
New Goal: Soft Seating!
