Dear Gentry Families,
As students continue to emerge from a life of daily Zooming to more time spent in the classroom, with each passing week we have really begun to see them relax, enjoy and settle into this new transitional phase of working our way back to a bit of normalcy. Most students while Zooming would agree that not having to get ready each morning for school was a plus, but now that many are back in school, we would love your partnership in refreshing students about our school's dress code. It seems like this is a rather small item to address, but important to daily success nonetheless. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us to make our way back and finish this school year strong. We could not do this without you. Have a great weekend!
In general, these clothing choices should not be worn to school:
- Revealing clothing that overexposes the body such as short shorts, short skirts, low cut and/or off the shoulder shirts, muscle shirts/undershirts with oversized armholes, shirts with spaghetti straps, pajama/flannel pants, etc., are not permitted.
- Any jewelry or accessories that pose a safety concern or depicts inappropriate slogans, etc.
- Sagging, or the wearing of pants below the waist and/or in a manner that allows the underwear, shorts or bare skin to show. Undergarments should not be visible as part of a student’s normal attire.
- Clothing depicting inappropriate slogans/advertisements or connotations related to inappropriate or undesirable messages.
- Shoes must be worn on campus at all times. House shoes are not permitted unless they have a hard rubber sole.
- Blankets that are being used as a coat are discouraged and should be left at home.

Springtime Reminders from the Nurse
Many of our teachers (on occasion) will utilize the great outdoors as a change of pace for their classroom setting. If your child manages a special health concern (example: asthma, diabetes, etc.), please be sure that you remind them to always have those supplies that they may need to treat their symptoms (should they arise) nearby. As an example, this may mean that your student carries their inhaler throughout the day or that you have provided those treatment supplies (with a physician’s order) to our school nurse so that your child has access to them throughout the day. Whatever the case may be for your student, if their supplies are not readily available to them, they will do them little good in an emergency. If you have any further questions, never hesitate to contact our school nurse, Jennifer Ferguson at jferguson@cpsk12.org or 214-3240.
School Policy on Over the Counter Medications:
In middle school, students have the freedom of responsibility to carry a dose of their own over the counter (OTC) medication. Examples include ibuprofen, Tylenol, Benadryl, allergy and cold medicine, cough drops, throat lozenges, eye drops, TUMS, Pepto-Bismol and Imodium.
Secondary students are allowed to carry on their person over the counter medication needed for one school day. All self-administered medication must be in a container properly labeled by the pharmacy or manufacturer and enough for one school day at a time. Exceptions to this include Schedule II medications which students are never allowed to carry for self-administration. All Schedule II medications must be stored and administered through the school health office. Students are not allowed to share medications.

Activities will take place in the school gymnasium and playing fields. Please click on the links below to view our monthly summer sports schedule. Registration forms and our informational meeting date will be posted soon.
Incoming 8th Grade Students Proof of Immunizations- Don't Delay!
The primary dose of the Tdap and Meningitis vaccines are generally administered to adolescents in the 6th grade (or between the ages of 11-12). It is a state REQUIREMENT that we obtain proof that your student has received the primary dose of both of these vaccinations PRIOR to their first day of 8th grade. If your student will be attending summer school as an incoming 8th grade student they will need to provide this proof PRIOR to starting summer school. Eighth grade students who have NOT provided us with this documentation will not be permitted to attend classes until this documentation is provided.
There is no need to wait! This documentation can be submitted to our nurse any time after your student receives these two vaccines. Providing this proof promptly will ensure that your student will be ready to start the 8th grade without delay. If you have any questions, please contact the main office at 214-3240.
