School Choice Expo - THIS Saturday, Jan. 11th
We are in desperate need of your help! Ms. Almon and I need your assistance in staffing our Don Brewer Elementary School booth for the School Choice Expo this weekend at the Prime Osborn. This awesome event begins at 11 am on Saturday and runs until 3 pm. As shared previously, we have put a sign-up sheet in the mailroom (on the door) in one-hour increments. Either Ms. Almon or myself will be at the booth at all times....you will never be left to man it by yourself.
They have moved our booth this year, but we remain on a corner (MY FAVORITE POSITION). We are right across from Julia Landon, so we will have lots of traffic! It's truly a fun time of fellowship with one another and celebrating Duval County Public Schools.
Please consider supporting your school and helping us man our booth. Your time and assistance will not only be greatly appreciated, but may even be rewarded. ;-)
As an FYI, I will be off campus most of the day on Friday setting up our booth.
Florida Department of Education ESE Site Visit
We will have a team of visitors conducting a site visit next Tuesday, Jan. 14th. They are scheduled to arrive around 8:15 am and will be seen throughout campus all day. As with our accreditation visit last year, the team will meet with various staff members (who have been notified) and will conduct classroom visits. While there is no expectation of them asking to meet with anyone not already indicated, they will have the freedom to go into any classroom across campus and observe.
Please consider our guests when you dress for the day next Tuesday. I would prefer no jeans, shorts or t-shirts, if possible. :)
Gray - Shadow
I will also have an aspiring leader shadowing me on Tuesday, Jan. 14th. Nicholas Johnson is an Intellectual Disabilities Specialist at Joseph Stilwell Military Academy of Leadership (middle school) with aspirations of moving into administration. He will be participating in the state site visit as much as the representatives will allow him. Don't hesitate to speak to him and/or introduce yourself.
Honor Roll Lists
Below please find your honor roll lists for the 2nd quarter. They are due to Ms. Palmieri by Friday, Jan. 10th at the end of the day. Ms. Taylor will check attendance and copies will be provided to you prior to our Honor Roll Assemblies on Tuesday, Jan. 21st. (A hard copy of this list will also be placed in your mailbox at the end of the day today.)
Family Academic Night
We do not have another early dismissal until the NIGHT BEFORE our Family Academic Night on Thursday, Jan. 30th. Therefore, we will be looking at 'giving' a ROAR or a ROAR and a half to provide you with some additional time to prepare. A flyer will be going home in report cards to begin promoting it, as well as on our social media platforms. I have your planning prep sheets and requests, but will be passing them back to a member of your team to ensure there aren't any changes that need to be made. With testing and everything else going on, the end of the month will be here quick! :)
Literacy Week/Just Read! Florida
DCPS Literacy Week and Just Read! Florida week run the same week as our Family Academic Night. The Reading Committee has created a week of fun activities to enjoy you our students as we are "POPPING INTO READING!" (This will be distributed shortly.)
This should be an awesome week to wrap up the first month of the new decade!
Jump Rope for Heart Kick-Off
On Friday, Jan. 31st, wrapping up our Literacy Week festivities, we will be kicking off our Jump Rope for Heart annual event in the cafeteria. As we have had previously, we will have two assemblies.
- 1:15/1:20 - 1:50 pm : 4th Grade and 3rd Grade ELA
- 2 - 2:30 : 5th Grade and 3rd Grade Math
3rd Grade ELA will be rushing to Resource following the first assembly. Please allow 3rd grade ELA to exit first to help us stay as close to 'on schedule,' as possible. :)
