A message from Mrs. Bender
January is a month where students get an opportunity to share what they have learned so far- present levels, student achievement and growth are determined through our local achievement assessement- MAP testing. MAP testing is important not only for your child, but incredibily important for teachers as well. This data helps us plan instruction efficiently. Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade will be assessed in early January and results will be shared with you during our February - Student Led Conferences. MAP testing covers reading, lanuage usage, and math. In 4th grade, we also measure student achievement and growth in science. Your child's teacher will be communicating further details with you in regards to our upcoming testing.
We wish you a New Year full of optimism, joy, happiness and luck!
Happy 2020!

Giving Tree- THANK YOU!
Thank you for your donations to the Giving Tree. You helped 188 students from all 4 schools keep warmer this winter with your many hats, gloves, and socks. Your partnership with the Blessing Baskets for many, many years has been much appreciated. We could not give so many students these much needed items without your help.
Thank you to the 4th graders for your monetary donations. Your money helped purchase socks for many of these 188 students.
Thanks again,
Rosanne Anderson

Physical Education News
Families of OIS students,
To kick off the New Year in Physical Education classes, students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade will be participating in a SWIMMING UNIT. Starting Monday, January 6th students will be bused to OMS to partake in the swmming unit. This unit takes approximately 3 weeks to complete; each class will swim for 5 days, where a variety of skills will be taught according to your child’s grade level. Safety rules and procedures will be taught and reviewed each day in the pool.
Students should bring their own swimsuits; however, towels are provided at the pool for each student. Students may bring their own goggles or masks along with a waterproof bag to transport their swimming gear. If there are any concerns or special circumstances that you may have (i.e. – ear plugs, allergies) about your child’s participation, please contact your child’s classroom teacher or the PE teacher (Mr.Ryan - ryanb@osceolak12.org or 715-294-2800 x2105).
We look forward to providing your child(ren) a safe, fun and enjoyable swimming unit.
Thank you,
Mr. Ryan- OIS Physical Education

December- Student of the Month
3rd grade: Genevieve Kruger
Genevieve is new to OIS this year and has been such a great addition to our class! She is an honest, sincere friend and is a positive influence to everyone around her. She comes into our classroom every morning with a smile on her face and a desire to learn. Keep up the great work Genevieve!
4th grade: Allyanna Rautio
Allyanna has been working above and beyond for our upcoming concert. She has been practicing the songs at home, and is being a leader for other students in class. She volunteers to help out with extra parts, sings the songs loud and clear for students to follow, and practiced the ASL so much that she has it memorized! I can tell that she worked so hard for the concert, all while being respectful, responsible, and safe in the classroom.
5th Grade: Leo Green
Leo is a smiley, friendly young man with a sweet smile. He gets along well with boys and girls, as well as adults. He is respectful. He has a growth mindset and tries every day, even when the work is challenging. Leo is responsible, organized, tidy, and keeps track of his belongings. Leo has a gentle, even-tempered nature. He enjoys spending time with his family and his animals and pets. He has beautiful printing and is artistic. He makes good connections with past and current teachers; he is genuinely interested in them, listening to them, asking them follow-up questions, and making connections.
