Global Ambassador Scholars Spring 2016 Meeting

Tuesday, April 19th, 5-7pm

1109 Cherry Road

Rock Hill, SC

Our Dinner Meetings are becoming a nice tradition where we can attend to both the housekeeping of our program (checking in on service requirements, sharing about study abroad plans) and engage in the community that comes with sharing a meal.

Our Spring Semester 2016 meeting is scheduled for April 19th. Those of you that need a ride should meet Drs. Poole & Webber inside Dinkins Hall (in front of the International Center) by 5 p.m. Have a car? Meet us a few minutes after 5 p.m. at Tequila Family Mexican Restaurant, 1109 Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC, 29732.

Please RSVP below (non-attendees will be required to complete a 1:1 mtg. with Dr. Webber prior to May 1, 2016 to stay in good standing with your Global Ambassador Scholarship).

RSVPs are enabled for this event.

Global Ambassador Scholars Service Components Requirements - Important Details

Please see, bookmark (!), and complete the Google form (below) to document each of your two service components this year (complete a form after completing a service requirement; you will complete two this year to stay in good standing with your scholarship). Please remember that you will need to complete service both in support of Global Learning and International. Our recommended plan is to complete one each semester; if you have yet to complete either or both, please make sure to attend the April 19th meeting or send an email to Dr. Poole or Dr. Webber ASAP. Dr. Poole and Dr. Webber will only be approving continuation of the Global Ambassador Scholarship benefits for 2016 - 17 for those who have completed, and have documented completing, both service components during 2015 - 16. A satisfactory academic performance, per GPA, is also required for scholarship continuation.

International Bazaar on April 21st (Richardson Ballroom, 11 am - 12 pm)

Still in need of completing one (or both) of your two annual service requirements? Email Graduate Student Staff in the International Center for more information about the International Bazaar and exactly how you could be of help. Please make sure to identify yourself in the email (a Global Ambassador Scholar needing to complete a service requirement under Dr. Poole's guidance).

Have both annual service requirements completed? Make sure to attend and enjoy yourself!

Study Abroad Plans

As you end your Sophomore year here at Winthrop, let's start talking more seriously about your global education plans! Many of you are finalizing your study abroad locations, three of you have already completed a study abroad experience . . . but a few of you seem a little unsure about what your next steps are. You can count on this being one of our conversations during our April 19th meeting!

The Crisis in Syria

At our dinner next month, we will also begin to consider how we might partner with a community group here in Rock Hill that is putting on a series next fall that focuses on the Syrian Crisis. The series will raise awareness about the Syrian Crisis and raise money for scholarships for Syrian refugees still in Syria. As of now, there is a fundraising barbecue planned, a refugee photo exhibit in the Winthrop Galleries, and several speakers lined up.
We have the opportunity to focus our scholarship service next school year on these efforts; community group leadership is open to our ideas of additional programs or fundraisers that we might lead.
