Welcome to the Prairie Point Panther Press!
Letter from the Home and School President
Happy 2018!! I hope you have thawed out – of course now we will freeze again!
I’d like to start by thanking all volunteers for your time and energy towards Home and School events. We’ve had a great first-half of the school year thanks to our awesome committees!!! And we can’t wait for all that’s coming the 2nd half of this year!! We are such an active group and it’s because you are all willing to be involved. We are so grateful.
In December, we held our Winter Wonderland/Holiday Shop for all Prairie Point families. We hope many of you found secret treasurers under your tree. Thank you to our Committee Chairs and volunteers for running an incredible evening. Appreciation also gave a great holiday treat to every staff member – popcorn and Red Box passes! Thank you to the committee for coming up with a clever gift and to the parents who donated all items to make it happen.
The board would like to share some exciting news. We were able to purchase a cart of 36 Chromebooks for the school, 100% from Home and School, with excess funds from last year and funds that came in through this year’s Panther Fitness Challenge. This week, we are offering applications for $8000 in grants to our staff. When we say that 100% of our fundraising comes back to the school, these are two of the many things we are referring to. It’s because of the generosity of our Prairie Point families that we are able to do so much.
Since our district is looking for all ways to cut costs, Home & School will be eliminating as much printing/copying as possible. From this point on, we will be utilizing PeachJar to send out all correspondence to our families. You should have seen quite a few flyers already from the district and Prairie Point. At this time, we are determining our Thursday folder procedure. We are aware that some papers still need to go home in order to have them returned with information, i.e., Variety Show forms, Morning with Mom, Raging Waves, Six Flags and Daddy/Daughter dance. We will communicate to all families any new procedures once those have been determined.
Lastly, it’s almost time to nominate a new board and fill any vacated committees. Our Home & school is only successful because parents offer their time. We would like to encourage anyone who is interested to please contact a board member and learn more about what we do. Our contact information is in the directory.
We hope you have a great January! Stay warm, dry and safe!
