VOE (Week of September 19th)

Lesson Plans and Classroom Visit Feedback

We will continue reviewing lessons plans on Monday morning and providing feedback. As we visit and watch the incredible learning taking place in your classrooms. We will be looking for the following as we visit:

  • Objectives for each day posted and written in student friendly verbiage.
  • Evidence of student understanding of concepts. (example: When we ask students what they are learning, they should be able to tell us.)

We will be seeing many visitors to our campus, as well as all other SBISD campuses, throughout the year. They will be visiting classrooms to witness the great learning and progress our students are making.

New Procedure for Transportation Changes Coming Soon

Beginning in mid-October or early November, we will implement our new procedure for transportation changes. We have had a very difficult time managing the last minute requests and changes from parents regarding end of the day transportation. Since we are an elementary school and must be extremely diligent in making certain all students go home the correct way, we have drafted a procedure that we hope to begin sometime in late October or early November.

  • Parents will have multiple methods to access the "Valley Oaks Transportation Change Request" form. (see attached sample below)
  • Requests can be made by parents using this form by noon (12:00 p.m.).
  • Written changes can be sent with a student or brought to the front office. We will accept phone calls to the front office up until noon (12:00 p.m.).
  • Changes can no longer be made via email or by phone to teachers.

Our goal is to significantly reduce the time teachers spend checking emails and to ensure changes have been accounted for throughout the day. Above all, it is important we send students home the correct way and keep them safe at all times. We added some contingencies to this new procedure since this is a new process for parents.

Before we begin this new process, we will meet with our Campus Improvement Team for additional input. After viewing the form below, please click on the google form survey to add your comments.

Below is a draft copy of the form. Please do not share this information with anyone outside of our staff since we are still working in draft mode.

Policy on Work Missed While Attending SPIRAL at Bendwood (Pertains to 3rd thru 5th)

The Spring Branch I.S.D. SPIRAL program for intellectually gifted students is an alternative educational plan. Both Bendwood SPIRAL and the home school campuses work together so that the best interests of gifted children are served. SPIRAL students have the responsibility of SPIRAL class work on SPIRAL days and are given SPIRAL assignments each week at the Bendwood Campus. Therefore, on SPIRAL days, SPIRAL students are not responsible for homework or class work assigned at the home school while they are not in attendance. On the home campus on SPIRAL day, instruction continues as usual. Because classes may be smaller, opportunities are increased for student interaction and individualization, as well as for enrichment and expansion activities. Introduction of new major concepts and testing should take place on the days that SPIRAL students are present on the home campus. Every effort should be made to schedule special events on the days SPIRAL students are on their home campuses.

Why Valley Oaks? Vision/Mission Planning

We know Valley Oaks is the best place for students to learn. Can we articulate why this is true? What makes us different from other campuses? Why do we choose Valley Oaks? Why do parents make concerted efforts to purchase homes in our attendance zone to send their children here?

Take a look at the video below (Southwest Airlines). Begin to think what our video would look like, if we were to make one, for Valley Oaks. What are we about? Your pre-work here will help us develop our vision and mission throughout the next couple of all-staff meetings.
