Hawkenings!!
Please remember to have your child in full uniform for Picture Day tomorrow.
And don't forget the envelope.
Religion is really coming along great! The children are showing more interest in the Bible readings / stories and how it relates to them in their life.
Language Arts
3rd Grade had their first official Spelling test last Friday and are preparing for next Thursday. (No Classes on Friday the 13th )
We are reading from both the paperback novels and the Basal Text – Journeys. Both groups are almost done with their novel and ready to move to the next one.
I am really proud of how many of them want to read even more.
Cursive writing / Penmanship is a challenge for all of them. I would like to start showing them its use in writing Scripture quotes. This will be in the next two weeks.
We will be entering the Essay contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary Department of Washington. Discuss with your child the theme but let them write out their thoughts and opinions. The title is “What does a veteran mean to me?”
Math with my group is practicing how to write and read numbers of high value. And then we move on to addition without regrouping up to the ten thousands, and in subtraction also. Our next move is to increase speed. The concept I believe has been learned but speed is a factor. The children know that addition and subtraction relate to multiplication and division. So we will be heading in that direction soon. Please keep helping your child with flash cards in addition and subtraction daily.
Congratulations to those students who joined in the Cross Country race this past Sunday. Send us pictures to post.
