Read Across America and March Book Madness

We are kicking off Read Across America next week starting with March Book Madness and Dr. Suess's Birthday! We would love to invite you to participate in reading with us! March Book Madness (MBM) is an online bracket-style tournament that matches books in one-on-one "games." Your student will have the opportunity to listen to their favorite teachers and staff members reading books that are competing for the championship title. If you would like to join your student in reading the competition, click here and log in using your student's Gmail account. Select Deep Wood Literacy Classroom and then select the book you would like to listen to.

We invite your student to participate in the following literacy dress-up days next week:

Monday - Dress as a Dr. Suess Character or a silly character from a silly story.

Tuesday - Dress as a famous American and read their story.

Wednesday - Wear your favorite jersey and read a story about your favorite athlete.

Thursday - Wear something to represent your family's culture or hometown and read a story about a different culture.

Friday - Wear your favorite color and read your favorite story.

We are excited to have you join us as we celebrate a school of powerful, diverse readers! Thank you for reading these recommended books and authors that represent a variety of experiences and cultures. This year's theme for MBM is "Brave and Bold".

You can follow along on the bracket after each round of voting here:

Art club applications are now available for fifth grade students. Spring art club is dedicated to making clay bowls to be donated to the Empty Bowls Festival. This is a service learning project which benefits the Round Rock Serving Center. Fifth graders interested in applying for art club can pick up an application from Mrs. Gonser. Applications are due on February 28th. Art club will meet after school on Thursdays beginning March 5th and will continue for six weeks. Art club is limited to about fifteen participants who will be chosen based on the application, positive attitude, and responsible behavior displayed in the classroom.

YOU ARE INVITED!!

We are so very excited about our upcoming school musical, SHREK Jr.!

The Chisholm Trail Musical Theatre class will be putting on a fabulous performance at Cedar Ridge High School, and we would LOVE for you to be part of the audience. The more engagement that we get with our shows, the more resources we have for the following year to create a wonderful and authentic theatre experience for our students. Selling tickets is our ONLY fund raiser and we rely on the supportive CTMS community to keep our shows running year after year.

We don't like bragging, but we consider ourselves to be one of the strongest middle school theatre programs in RRISD and our large audiences keep us near the top!

This year's production features incredible costumes from Zilker Park Musicals, a set for Austin Shakespeare, a 24 foot dragon puppet, and principal MR. SWAIN on stage as a cameo role!! The students have been working so hard to make sure that this is our best show yet.

Please join us if you can! Seats are reserved, so the earlier you buy, the better seats that you will have. Tickets are only $12 for adults and $7 for students. The performances are on February 28th and February 29th at 7:00pm at the Cedar Ridge Auditorium.

We hope to see a lot of future CTMS Cougars in the audience!!
