Principal’s Message
First Inaugural GRE PTO Spring Fling - This Sunday 3-6pm
This is the first year of the GRE Spring Fling at Glacier Ridge on Sunday, April 23 from 3-6pm. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for families to get together and connect with one another. There will be a variety of activities, including games, food, and music for students and families.
A huge thank you to Andrea Denman and Casey Mussio, the committee chairs, and the PTO board for planning the event.
There has been a lot of time and thought for this event and we are excited to bring GRE families this opportunity. With any new event, there will certainly be room for growth and feedback. If you have ideas for this event in subsequent years, we would love to have you join part of the planning committee for next year.
As a PTO, our goal for next year will be to continue to foster relationships among families, as the school does among students. As you attend this event, consider making connections with another family or the PTO that you may not know as well. We have encouraged students to try to meet someone new or make a connection with someone they don’t know well. Consider introducing yourself to a PTO member during this event to see how you can help support GRE and the PTO next year.
We hope to see you there!
Lastly, we said thank you to all the volunteers on Friday. As the cliche says, it takes a village…! We thank the school community, families, and parents/guardians for their contribution to GRE. Whether you donate time, funding, materials, or leadership, we appreciate you. Those that donate find it rewarding. It is a win-win.
Sincerely,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D

5th Grade Dodgeball
This year’s district charity dodgeball tournament charity event is on May 12. The money raised benefits a charity each year. Each DCS school has teams of students and staff that participate in the good-hearted competition. Each elementary school sends one team of 5th grade students.
As you might expect, there are a lot of students that want to participate in the district dodgeball tournament. Therefore, we have a fair and inclusive process for selecting our teams. Although this has an element of competition, we heavily emphasize the charity, kindness, and inclusion components of this tournament. Therefore, our team selection process mirrors those values.
All 5th graders have the opportunity to participate on a 5th grade dodgeball team if they choose to do so. Those students that are interested need to submit their application to Mrs. Findley, the PE teacher, by FRIDAY, APRIL 28. NO LATE FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Mrs. Findley communicates the dodgeball information to students during PE and emphasizes the importance of the deadline. HERE is the student sign-up form if needed.
Of those forms submitted, students are randomly selected to create male and female teams. The selection occurs during 5th grade lunch so the students can see the fair and equitable process. The student teams then compete in a male and female bracket until there is one male and one female team remaining. Students that are not on a team are able to watch the tournament and support their classmates. The winning male and female teams combine to create the dodgeball team that represents GRE at the district tournament. Unfortunately, parents cannot attend the GRE school tournament due to space limitations. However, families/parents may attend the district tournament.
If you have a 5th grade student that is excited about dodgeball, I encourage you to support us in our guiding values. Please help them understand the importance of inclusion and supporting their teammates, regardless of their dodgeball ability. Talk about the purpose of the tournament, which is about raising money for charity and giving back, rather than competition and winning.
All students and families are welcome to attend the district tournament on May 12 @ 6:30 at Coffman HS and root on the GRE student and staff teams.
