Also, a big thank you to everyone who helps cover duties so the teachers can get into the library after school on training days.
Read Aloud Vs. Shared Reading
In shared reading, all kids have text in hand or access to the text to practice the skill. Pictured here is a class with shared reading. During shared reading, every student has access to the text- whether it is an ebook projected on the whiteboard, a big book, or each student has a copy of the text.
Authentic Writing: Do your students write authentically daily?
Authentic Writing:
assignments that allow students to select topics that they are interested in and that allow them to write to real audiences that they truly want to speak to.
Authentic Writing is writing for real purposes and real audiences. Authentic writing is writing that is most like that which occurs in everyday life.
Authentic Writing includes:
• writing that is meaningful, relevant and useful to the writer;
• supporting writers with a print-rich environment;
• providing choice within a variety of forms and genres;
• understanding that the writing process is recursive;
• having the opportunity to interact with others in response to text.
