I hope you had a chance to complete the eLearning survey and return it with your child. If not, please do so when we return. We will have a "practice" eLearning day at Schmitt in mid January. Please send your questions my way.

PLCs at Schmitt - Has your child been "moving" to different teachers?

We began developing PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) at Schmitt during the second quarter this year. Once a week, classroom teachers meet with administration and coaches and agree on a critical standard to be taught those next five days. The week after, teachers review the data from student work (common assessments) and will move students accordingly during intervention for remediation. For example: Mrs. Denniston may have five students that didn't show mastery on their fraction work, so those students will go to Mrs. Acton during Intervention time for remedial work. This changes weekly and enables other teachers to enrich other students who are ready for more challenging work. This research-based strategy is really paying off for our students so far. We're excited to see how it develops in 2016.

Thanks to Mr. Laine and the Choir Members for a great performance on Friday!

Winter Work at Schmitt

While the students are away, the adults are hard at work making improvements. We are swapping the therapy room and STEM lab. When students return, the STEM lab will have more space, enabling students to better explore their creations and test their theories. The new STEM lab will be located between the Art and Music rooms.
