Participants will:
- Understand the philosophy of healthy grading practices.
- Demonstrate knowledge of healthy grading practices: cleansing behaviors and shifting language, putting standards in student friendly language, and aligning instruction, practice, and assessment.
- Develop plans to improve their assessment and grading practices.
Choose 1 Option
Live Book Study – Learn collaboratively with a team of your own colleagues. Your team decides when and where you will meet face-to-face to complete and discuss your assignments (minimum of 5 participants). Your building principal must verify quality participation and assignment completion.
Seesaw Book Study – Learn collaboratively with educators from other schools. Using the Seesaw app/website, you determine when you want to complete and post your assignments.
Timeline & Registration
Live Book Study Timeline: October 1, 2018 – February 28, 2019 (20 weeks)

Seesaw Book Study Timeline: October 1 - November 30, 2018 (8 weeks)
o To join the Seesaw Book Study - Individual participants must complete this form prior to October 1, 2018 https://goo.gl/forms/tNGqe4LRF29K1v3u1 . On or before October 1st, you will receive an email from the instructor with a class code and instructions for signing in via the Seesaw class app or by going to http://app.seesaw.me
Course Completion Requirements:
- Read The Grade Cleanse: A Roadmap to Healthy Grading, by Danny Hill and Garnet Hillman.
- Complete all learning tasks and engage in professional discussions during face to face meetings or electronically via Seesaw (a free digital portfolio app).
- Circle the letter/symbol of each completed task on the Grade Cleanse Roadmap. Solve the puzzle at the bottom.
- Live Participants - Share and discuss your assignments with your colleagues and building principal. Building principal must submit the Group Participation Form to sherri.nelson@k12.sd.us by February 28, 2019.
- Seesaw Participants - Post a picture of your completed Grade Cleanse Roadmap to Seesaw by December 1, 2018.
