The New Face of Transgender Youth
"I wasn't just a boy who liked girly things – I knew I was a girl."
-Jazz Jennings
Early Life
Jazz Jennings was born on October 8 , 2000 in South Florida to her parents Greg and Jeanette Jennings . At birth Jazz was classified a boy , but at just 15 months she started to behave more feminine , she was diagnosed with gender identity disorder . At age 6 Jazz started to open up and tell the world about his life as a transgender child , and although she technically is a boy , she considers herself a girl ever since she was little.
Family
Jazz and her parents Greg and Jeanette Jennings , older sister Ari Jennings , and older twin brothers Sander and Griffin Jennings
Hobbies
Jazz has always loved to sing and dance , and even has expressed interests in acting
I am Jazz
Jazz co-wrote a book to explain to younger children about being transgender in a simpler way
There is no need to be afraid
It's obvious that growing being transgender isn't easy . Jazz faced many obstacles in her life, luckily she had her family's support . But now since she knows what it feels like to be looked at differently and misunderstood , she can give advice to other kids going through the same thing and that was her goal from the beginning. She was able to accomplish it by publishing her own children's book . Her hopes are to reach out and help kids with the same struggle as her. Luckily Jazz isn't defying any organization but just informing those that don't understand what it's like and the constant bullying has made her stronger than ever . Along with being a co-author to her own book , she also is selling mermaid tails to raise awareness and money for transgender youth.
Heroine
The exact definition of heroine is "a woman admired or idealized for her courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities." , in a way Jazz is a heroine in my eyes and I bet in many others especially in transgender youth. Because instead of running away and denying the fact that she's transgender , she embraced it and reached out to people which probably took loads of courage . Imagine how much negative comments she got from people who don't agree or support what she is .
