ELA Focus
- Make inferences and use evidence to support understanding with adult assistance.
Math Focus
- Students make significant progress towards fluency with addition and subtraction of numbers to 10 as they are presented with opportunities intended to advance them from counting all to counting on, which leads many students to decomposing and composing addends and total amounts. In Kindergarten, students achieved fluency with addition and subtraction facts to 5. This means they can decompose 5 into 4 and 1, 3 and 2, and 5 and 0. They can do this without counting all. They perceive the 3 and 2 embedded within the 5.
2nd Grade Focus:
ELA Focus
- Demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
- Students expand their skill with understanding units by bundling ones, tens, and hundreds up to a thousand with straws. Unlike the length of 10 centimeters in Module 2, these bundles are discrete sets. One unit can be grabbed and counted just like a banana—1 hundred, 2 hundred, 3 hundred, etc. A number in Grade 1 generally consisted of two different units, tens and ones. Now, in Grade 2, a number generally consists of four units: thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones. The bundled units are organized by separating them largest to smallest, ordered from left to right. Over the course of the module, instruction moves from physical bundles that show the proportionality of the units to non-proportional place value disks and to numerals on the place value chart.

Late Pick-up Policy
Effective January 22, 2024
Dear Parent or Guardian,
This letter is a friendly reminder that our school hours are from 7:00 a.m.-3:25 p.m. This is a reminder to pick up your student on time. It is the parents responsibility to make sure that the student is picked up on time, or to make other arrangements to have your child picked up on time. The consequence of repeated late pick-up may include:
Students exclusion from extracurricular activities
Student exclusion from school events.
Call to appropriate authorities.
If you are in need of transportation or need information regarding the after-school program, please contact Crystal Lewis, Assistant Principal of Operations at 346-267-4682 or email crystal.lewis@kipptexas.org so we can partner with you.

- The arrival gate (Hwy 90) will be open from 6:50AM - 7:30AM.
Late Arrival
- Students are late at 7:30AM and must be signed in by an adult in the front office. Siblings are not allow to sign in younger siblings.
Dismissal
- Gate 1 off of Hwy 90 opens at 2:50pm-4:00PM. Please be on time to pick up your students
- Also, remember that this is a school setting, and we must all remain respectful to each other and the KIPP Mosaic STAFF. Thank you for your support and patience as we work to make adjustments for the safety and security of our students, staff, and community where and when necessary.
- Late Pick up - gate 3 off of Hwy 90 will close at 4:10PM. Students will be dismissed from the main office starting at 4:45PM. Failure to pick up students by 4:45PM will result in the proper authorities called.
- Mosaic Primary strongly suggests that our parents report aggressive behavior on the street surrounding KMP to HPD and collectively work together to hold those parents accountable.
- Parents should be following arrival and dismissal process. Parents are to sign their students in the morning as well as in the afternoon for late pickup. An adult not a sibling from upper grade level.
- Any accidents upon this request will not be the fault of the school.
Early Pick Up
- Parents/Guardians must present a valid form of ID or their student's pick-up tag for release.
- Early pick-up must be done an hour before dismissal.
- The early pick-up cut-off Monday through Thursday is at 2:25PM.
Attendance
- Attendance is critical!
- Pre-K 3 AM - 4th Grade students must be in their classrooms by 10:00AM in order to be marked present for the day.
- Pre-K 3 PM students must be in their classrooms by 2:00PM in order to be marked present for the day.
- In order for an absence to be excused students/parents should provide on their return to school (no later than 2 days) a note containing the following:
- Date the note is written
- Dates of the absences
- Student’s full name
- Student’s grade level
- Reason for the absence (example: illness, sounding Taps, religious...etc.)
- Parent/guardian signature
- KIPP Texas will only accept up to five handwritten notes per year for absences dealing with illness or family emergencies.
- The SIXTH handwritten note will NOT excuse an absence and the student will be subject to truancy policies. (This does not pertain to notes written/signed by a healthcare provider as proof of a documented appointment.)
- A student absent for more than five consecutive days because of a personal illness must bring in a note from a healthcare professional verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s extended absence. Otherwise, the student’s absences may be considered unexcused and, if so, would be used towards the unexcused absences used towards truancy filings.
- Should a student develop a questionable pattern of absences, even if all absences are considered excused, an attendance meeting will be called by the school to discuss the student’s attendance. In addition, KIPP Texas will address chronic absenteeism throughout the entire school year. Chronic Absenteeism is defined as missing ten percent or more of the academic year for any reason, including excused and unexcused absences, suspensions, and time missed due to changing schools.
- If absences are due to illness or health conditions, the school may require a statement from a healthcare professional or an Individualized Health Plan (IHP) signed by a doctor verifying the illness or condition that caused the absences from school.
- Based on a 180-day school year, a chronically absent student would miss 18 or more days (9,000+ minutes of instruction).
- If a doctor, dentist, or other healthcare appointment needs to be made, the expectation is for every attempt to be made to schedule appointments on early dismissal or school holiday dates. If this is not possible, the student must provide notification within 2 days from a licensed healthcare provider validating the absence for it to be excused.
