Cells and Organelles
by Devon Jackson
Plasma/Cell Membrane
The plasma/cell membrane is a double layer of phospholioids, and it's function is to separate the cell from outside structures, and it is present in both animals and plants.
Cell Wall
The call wall is a rigid layer of polysaccarides called cellulose, and it protects cells and helps give shape, and it is present in plants.
Cytoplasm
Cytoplasm is the fluid spreadout through a cell, and its function is to contain the inside of the cell, and it is present in both animals and plants.
Nucleus
The Nucleus is a dark spot close to the center of a cell, and its function is to act as the brain of the cell. It is present in both animals and plants.
Nuclear Membrane
The Nuclear membrane is the substance surrounding the nucleus, and its function is to separate the nucleus from the cytoplasm. Present in both animals and plants.
Nucleolus
The Nucleolus sits inside the nucleus, and its function is to makeproteins and rewrite ribosome RNA. Present in both animals and plants.
Centrioles
Centrioles are two small organelles found in every animal cell that help organize the assembly of microtubules during cell division.
Chromatin
Chromatin are longs strands of DNA that strengthen DNA, and to compress it into smaller volumes, and it is present in both plants and animals.
Ribosomes
Ribosomes are small, grainlike blobs that help with protein synthesis in a cell, which makes making proteins. It is present in both animals and plants.
Golgi apparratus
The Golgi complex is an organelle that appears like stacked pancakes, and its function is to serve as a shipping deparment for a cell, and it is present in both animals and plants.
Endoplasmic reticulum
The E.R is a double walled space that zigzags through the cytoplasm, and its purpose is to act as a packaging system to work closely with shipping with the Golgi complex
Mitochrondia
Mitochrondia are jelly bean like structures that burn sugars and act as the engine of a cell found in both animals and plants.
Chloroplast
Chloroplasts are the green organelles inside of a plant and their function is to help conduct photosynthesis by absorbing light.
Lysosomes
Lysosomes are small membrane sacs that serve as a garbage disposal of a cell and help digest food in animals
Peroxisomes
Peroxisomes are small vesicles found around the cell that break down toxic nutrients in a cell, being similar to lysosomes, and they are found in both animal and plant cells.
Vacuole
Vacuoles are large bodies of water in a cell that serve as a refridgerator for a cell, and it is found in both animals and plants.
Cytoskeleton
A cytoskeleton is the framework of a cell, and it helps a cell with shape, support, and movement. Present in both animals and plants.
