Gifted Education News for Rice Lake Elementary

Greetings Families! We are now just over half way through the school year, and I am so enjoying the relationships I am forming with the Rice Lake community! Testing will be wrapping up next week (except for one make up session needing to be done with Mrs. Hanson's class) and pull out groups will start up again the following week! Results of testing will be send out end of April or early May. Just as a heads up, check out next month's newsletter for a link to a form to gather feedback on some aspects of Gifted Education here at Rice Lake! Happy February--I look forward to seeing some of you at winter conferences (see below for my schedule).

“Honeycrisp Apples”

Apple breeding at the University of Minnesota has been ongoing since 1908 and has produced 27 varieties including Minnesota favorites such as Honeycrisp and Haralson. Apple breeding involves both the science of genetics and the craft of identifying fruit with desirable properties such as taste, flavor, color and texture. This presentation will discuss how breeders develop new apple varieties that are adapted to our region and provide delightful fruit for apple consumers and apple processors.

Your FREE participation in each month’s Young Scientist Roundtable is funded by Gifted Education 279.
