Upcoming Lockdown Drill

On Monday, November 20 Bridgeport staff and students will practice for a lockdown in the case of an emergency. Please remind your students that this is just a drill and that practicing helps make our school safer. We will prepare students with this information ahead of time and debrief afterwards using this slideshow and these teaching points. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions about the drill itself or the safety measures that we have in place at Bridgeport.

Dear Bridgeport Families,

Bridgeport is No Place for Hate! We are excited to begin this year’s No Place for Hate projects here at Bridgeport this month. No Place for Hate focuses on creating a safe, welcoming environment for all students. Since we have started No Place for Hate, we have seen fewer cases of bullying and students have developed a common language for talking about the impact our words have on each other.

Parents, teachers and students have been working together to design projects that will be supported by our fifth grade student ambassadors. This month, students will participate in the first of these school wide activities that will help us build community and learn about how to include and respect everyone. Here is the link to the slideshow lesson for students. We will share lesson materials for each activity as the year goes on.

The No Place for Hate Pledge is a promise that students will take in their classes:

I promise to do my best to treat everyone fairly.

I promise to do my best to be kind to everyone--even if they are not like me.

If I see someone being bullied, I will tell a teacher.

Everyone should be able to feel safe and happy in school.

I want for our school to be No Place for Hate.

Family Support: We would like to encourage involvement from all of our Bridgeport families by supporting this project at home. One way to do that is by talking to your students at home about kindness, respect, and how to include others. Here are some questions to talk about at home:

1. What are some things that make our family special? What are the things that make our family special (i.e. our culture, heritage, race, religion, values, beliefs, interests, and/or traditions)?

2. How can we show respect and kindness to others at home and at school?

3. Have you ever been treated in an unkind way? What do you wish would have happened instead?

4. Have you ever helped a friend who was feeling sad or hurt? What did you do? How did you feel?

Our November Art Literacy Artist Ebony Frisonwill be coming to Bridgeport on Wednesday, November 15th to meet with your students in the library. In addition to her visit on Nov 15th, she'll also be roaming the school during our Art Literacy Project Day on Friday, November 17th. Very exciting!

As a real cherry on top, she will be creating a custom piece of art for us to display at our school inspired by the student's responses to this question: "What does it mean to you for our school to be "No Place for Hate"?"

Then on Friday, November 17th during their specials class, all students will create an abstract, neurographic artwork that helps slow our brains down and may even look like the inside of our brain inspired by the work of Portland-based artist Ebony.

Artwork will be on display throughout the school following our project day. Bridgeport's Art Literacy is a program of the Bridgeport PTO.

TTSD and LifeStance Health have partnered to improve student access to mental health services. The LifeStance Health School-Based Program is dedicated to providing quality therapeutic services to schools while removing barriers for students and families by placing therapists in district buildings. School-Based Therapists treat mental health conditions which can include depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, or substance use issues.

Services are billed through OHP and most insurance plans.

LifeStance Health serves all TTSD students K-12 out of two locations:

1. Tigard High School

2. Byrom Elementary/Tualatin High School

On Thursday, November 30, students will participate in NED’s Mindset Mission Assembly. The show will be filled with storytelling, humor, amazing yo-yo tricks, and best of all, many positive messages such as Doing your Best and Encouraging Others. Students will have the opportunity to purchase yo-yos of their own during our school-wide yo-yo sale. Order forms will be sent home with students before the assembly. Students will also be practicing basic yo-yo skills during PLUSS class.

Would you like to teach an after school club at Bridgeport Elementary this Winter? Do you have a skill or past time you would like to share with students in an after school club setting? Clubs will begin February 12th on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 pm-3:45 pm for six weeks. Your student will be able to enroll into a club of your choosing if you volunteer to run a club. • There is a shortage of chocolate milk due to a manufacturing issue with the milk cartons.
• The cafeterias are also still experiencing some supply chain issues due to manufacturing shortages, and food industry transportation, and delivery challenges.
