Betsy's Bits

In Case You Missed It:
I was also made aware of two acts noticed by Cindy Quiggle where our students were being kind and putting other's needs in front of their own. One student, which happens to be one that receives Back Pack Pals each week, brought in an entire box of canned food for the SGLA food drive. Another child voted for his running mate in the 8th grade King contest. His vote was the one vote which caused the other student to win the representation for his homeroom. Both of these acts were brought to my attention by their proud teacher. These acts validate the "Whatever it takes" attitudes we have at SanLee when it comes to our Stallion Family. Our students are learning from our positive examples and we are helping to raise good people.
Sunshine Dues are $10. These are used to purchase flowers for deaths in the immediate family, send cards for other deaths and hospital visits, and purchase plates, napkins, etc. for events, purchase items needed for faculty/staff of the month. In other words, it helps to bring a little sunshine to our school family. If you have not paid your dues, we would greatly appreciate the help. See a representative from the Culture Committee to get yours paid this week.
PLEASE turn your projector off if you are not using it and always cut it off when you are leaving your room. These bulbs cost $100 a piece. I have purchased the piece that Shannon shared with all on Thursday to allow you to play music from your speakers with the projector turned off. Email her if you need one when it is delivered this week. If you have a hard time remembering to cut the projector off, ask your students to help you or put a visual reminder on your board to remind you all.
Our new school nurse, Lori Kearns, will begin November 29. Lori is a Sanford native, (her mom was an elementary school teacher), graduated from UNC Greensboro, currently lives in Sanford, and works as as school nurse in Moore County. Until then, we will have nurses on call if we have problems, and stopping by once a week to address field trips and screenings. Head School Nurse, Mary Oates will be here for Health-A-Rama, November 15 & 16.
This is a reminder that Report Card Pick Up is just that, a time for the team (available at that time) to see a parent briefly and give the report card and touch base. This is not a full parent/teacher conference. If you need a conference, please have your calendar there to book another time. It is also a great time to make sure all your numbers, emails, etc are correct. If it is someone that you have been trying to reach and have not been able to do so, please feel free to talk about issues if no one is waiting. If others are waiting, send one or two from the team to a private room to talk while the other teacher carry on with shaking hands and handing out the report card. Make sure to always find something positive to say about all your students and LISTEN to what the parent has to say and always ask a parent for advice. The parent is always the expert when it comes to their child.
