January 2019

Message from the Principal

Happy New Year! The rest of the year will be filled with many new & exciting experiences. Each new grading period becomes more challenging than the previous grading period. We need your help in order for your child to have a successful school experience for the remainder of the year. We ask that you send your child prepared for school each day. Check your child’s agenda and communicate regularly with your child’s teacher. Helping your child reach his/her potential requires all of us working together. I look forward to the exciting and successful remainder of the 2018– 2019 school year!

Free Meals for Students Through January 31, 2019

Students in Onslow County Schools will all be eligible to receive breakfast and lunch free of charge through January 31, 2019.

The OCS Department of Nutrition has been granted an extension from the USDA to continue to offer our students meals at no cost -- and you do not need to fill out an application for your child to enjoy this benefit. However, beginning on February 1, 2019, all students will return to pre-storm status. This means students who paid for or were provided meals at a reduced cost will be charged from that time forward. Students who were receiving meals at no cost before the storm will continue to receive them for free. If you would like to receive free or reduced meal benefits after January 31, please click on the link to complete an application:

Instructional Time/Classroom Interruptions

Our goal is to protect instructional time for our students and avoid classroom interruptions. Parents are not allowed to the classroom during instructional time unless there is a scheduled parent conference. Items may be dropped off in the office for students and the items will be delivered to the classroom. Office staff are NOT permitted to "call down" to the classroom during instructional time. Messages will be relayed to teachers during their break or lunch times. Thank you for your continued support.

Media Center News

The library is looking for donations of old smart phones. We have new virtual reality headsets to use in our STEM area, and we need smart phones to make them complete. Donations can be left in the front office during regular school hours.

School Picture Make-Up Day

If your child was absent or if you have decided that you would rather return your child's pictures and have their school picture retaken then this is for you. Strawbridge Studios will be here on Friday, January 11, 2019 to do make-ups and retakes. Please make sure you have returned your child's previous picture packet if wanting a retake. Info to go home about pictures as soon as it is received from Strawbridge

Summersill PTO

Thank you to all the parents who donated their time to help with our Holiday Shop! It was a great success and we had many happy shoppers. We appreciate everyone who sent in food donations to help some of our Eagle Families with meals over the Winter Break.
