WHAT: To follow our school value of being ‘Courageous’ – by doing it!

WHY: Courage is important because ‘we all have to do things we don't like sometimes’.

Courage is when you are brave about something you fear.

Everyone is afraid of something or someone - lowering your standards to go along with the crowd should never pass for courage.

HOW: Courageous people believe in themselves. They know who they are and what they stand for.

They have strong values, recognize their personal capabilities, and are confident in meeting the challenges that lie before them.

Courageous people are passionate and purposeful.

SIGNS OF SUCCESS: (See profile sheet)

1) Your courage means being afraid and acting anyway

2) Your courage becomes a habit, a muscle you can exercise

3) You notice every time you do something that you’re scared to do—something your body is telling you not to do

4) You learn to attend to positive signals and to ignore negative ones

5) You find role models of quietly courageous people

6) You continue to learn and accept challenges

Kia ora koutou to our Vogeltown whanau and welcome to the end of week 1 for Term 3! Didn't that week just fly by for the first week of the term!

It has been great to have all our family back - to see all the smiling faces, the holiday stories, the holiday writing and the buzz around the school sites! This place is just a not a school without our learners!

Today we welcomed some new learners and their whanau to Vogeltown. It is great to see how well our new learners have already slotted in to the 'Vogeltown way'! Our value focus this term is on being 'Courageous' and it has been great to see this with our learners this week - getting ready for a busy term of learning, dancing and creating!

It has been great to see our Olympic team showing courage in Tokyo as well - they are fantastic role models for our learners. Great to see ex-Vogeltown learner Zac Reid do a personal best this week!

Next week we have our Learning Conferences. A reminder that school will be closing early on Thursday 5th August at 2pm. Thank you for your support in making alternative plans for Thursday afternoon. Also, school is closed next Friday 6th August so we can fit in all the learning conferences - again thanks for your support of this Teacher Only Day.

Aroha nui, Mr O

Haere mai, Haere mai to our new Vogeltown learners and whanau! Today we 'officially' welcomed our new learners to Vogeltown in our whole school assembly.

We also welcomed our new Kaiako for Rm 15, Miss Sawtell and our student teachers here for the term, Miss Scott and Miss Young.

In Rm 6: Zak Deacon, Bella King, Amorē Kuun, Lachlan Salisbury-McInnes

In Rm 11: Charlie Laird

In Rm 13: William Carroll

In Rm 14: Oscar Berridge

We know you will enjoy your time with us whanau!

As part of our reporting to parents/caregivers on student progress, we hold Learning Conferences in Term 1 and Term 3. Our Term 3 Learning Conferences are next week. We always try to get 100% attendance to these conferences as they are a very important time to meet with your child's teacher and discuss the progress made so far over the year. You will also receive your child's progress report at this meeting - this will be the same report as you received in Term 1, however it will show the progress your child has made over Term 2.

NOTE: Room 15 have already had their conferences this term, so they will not require learning conferences during this week.

To fit in all Learning Conferences, we will be closing the school at 2pm on Thursday 5th August. Please make alternative arrangements for your child on this day.

We also have a Teacher Only Day on Friday 6 August (in line with other local schools) and this day will be used for learning conferences as well.

To book in for a learning conference, please use this website and these codes for the different days:

The booking website is open now.

Writing from Rm 3

I went to Raglan. I started at 6 in the morning. It was dark but it was cool. I loved the stars.
But then, we went to Rotorua. It stunk! I did not like it and I asked my mum, “What is making this smell?" Mum said, “It is boiling eggs”. I said, “I think we need a covid mask!”

Kia ora Vogeltown whanau,

We are planning for our big raffle this term. If you know of any businesses, or you have 'hook ups' with businesses please ask if they would like to donate a voucher for our raffle. Last year our Term 3 raffle raised over $9,000! Email the Home and School if you are able to help out here - vshomeandschool@gmail.com

We are holding a sausage sizzle fundraiser at the New Plymouth Hockey Turf on Hobson St on Saturday 14th August. We would LOVE some volunteers to help us, even just for an hour would be fantastic! Please email vshomeandschool@gmail.com or come along to our meeting if you are able to help.

Our next Home and School meeting is next Tuesday 3 August. It will be held in the Senior staff room at 7pm - all welcome!

Thanks whanau!

1) Please remember to contact the school office if your child is absent. You can do this via Skool Loop, text 021 753 680 or ph 06 753 6843. Please do not use SeeSaw for student absences - these must come through the office. Please tell the office even if you have let the teacher know.

2) We are operating at Covid-19 Level 1. Please also remember, to scan the Covid-19 QR code when you come in to the school. if you are signing your child(ren) in/out, you will still need to scan the QR code. Thanks heaps for stopping this virus in NZ.

Thanks whanau

Stay safe and be kind to each other. Thank you for the ongoing support of Vogeltown School, we appreciate the community we live in. Have a great weekend!

On behalf of the Vogeltown team,

Ka kite ano
