A Note From the Principal
Dear Woodholme Families,
We hope everyone has been getting through the virus and flu season okay. It has certainly been a rough year for students and staff so far. If you have any questions about whether or not to have your child stay home from school, please call Nurse Berman for advice.
BCPS is currently conducting a Stakeholder Satisfaction Survey to give our stakeholders the opportunity to provide feedback on the educational program in BCPS. The survey is available for students in Grades 3 through 12 as well as all parents, community members and staff. It is anonymous, and it’s available in 16 languages on any phone, tablet, or computer. You are also welcome to take the survey at our school. Thanks for getting online before March 2nd to take the quick survey. The link for the survey is above in the newsletter. For the many families who give us such great feedback about the Woodholme experience, this is a great opportunity to let others know. We strive to make sure each student has a positive school experience with great academic growth!
Woodholme has been given an exciting opportunity and gift! The Friedman Charitable Foundation has sponsored a Ben Carson Reading Room for Woodholme Elementary! This room is located on the second floor of the building, and it now contains a space themed decorated library of books for our students to visit to read for enjoyment. We will be celebrating the opening of the room with an assembly and ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday morning at 9:45 AM, and then once the room is open, students will be able to visit and enjoy the books and relaxed reading! We are grateful to the Pikesville schools Coalition, the Carson Scholars Fund, and the Friedman family for this wonderful gift for our kids! Thanks also to Patient First for donating some additional funds to furnish the room with seating for fun reading, as well as thanks to the painters of the room, Lorren Smith Home Improvements, and support from CHAI (Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc.). There so others too numerous to list, but we are so appreciative of all of the support we received getting this room set up and ready. It really takes a village to create success for all kids, and we are certainly so grateful to our community village!
Woodholme has been designated as a Targeted Title 1 school again for the 2018-19 school year. That means that the school will receive additional funding to provide support for designated targeted students based on academic data. If we continue to qualify for Title 1 funds for the 2019-20 school year, we will become a schoolwide Title 1 school which means we can use the funds for any and all students. Thank you to all of our families who completed the Free and Reduced Meals forms this year. We would not have received the extra funds without your help!
Inclement weather is possible at any time during the winter months, so please continue to check TV/radio news or online or social media posts for any BCPS closings, delays or early dismissals. Please do not wait for the school or county Messenger phone calls or emails to notify you of closings, delays or early dismissals. We do not send the Woodholme delay or closing calls out right away in the morning so that they do not disturb families too early. Parents are expected to seek this information via the media.
Stay safe and warm this month, and as always, thank you for your support and collaboration!
Sincerely,
Principal Young
